CUMBERLAND and BANGOR – Richard P. Roy, 59, husband of Jeannine M. (Bacon) Roy died of cancer April 16, 2005, at his Cumberland home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 6, 1946, in Woonsocket, R.I., a son of Royal G. and Flora M. (Durand) Roy. He was a graduate of St. Raphael’s Academy in Paw-tucket, R.I., Rhode Island College, Suffolk University and the New England Institute of Mortuary Science. A Vietnam era U.S. Air Force veteran, he and his wife owned and operated the Roy Funeral Home in Manville, R.I. He taught at New England Institute in Boston and then was employed by Brookings-Smith in Bangor for a number of years. Until his illness he was manager of the Lindquist Funeral Home in Yarmouth. Surviving in addition to his wife of 36 years, are his children, Marcie A. Roy and her fianc?, Jeff Waters, of Bangor, Paul G. Roy of New York City, Emilie P. Sullivan and her husband, Matthew, of Washington, DC; his cherished granddaughter, Mia Caroline Sullivan; his brother, George R. Roy and his wife, Lorraine, of North Smithfield, R.I.; his nieces, Michelle Roy of Plymouth, Mass., Monique Roy of North Smithfield, R.I. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, and also 6-9 p.m. Thursday, April 21, at the Menard Funeral Home, Carrington Avenue, Woonsocket, R.I. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday, at St. James Catholic Church, Division Street, Manville, R.I. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland, R.I. Gifts in his memory may be made to Sacred Heart Parish, Main Street, Yarmouth, ME 04096 for Paroisse Sacre Coeur, Meyer, Haiti.
