HAMPDEN, Maine — Two local residents were taken Friday to a Bangor hospital after their snowmobiles collided.
Injured in the accident was David Mooers, 46, who briefly lost consciousness after the accident but was alert and speaking when emergency medical personnel arrived, according to Deborah Turcotte, spokeswoman for the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
Mooers complained of back pain at the accident scene and was put on a backboard before being taken to the hospital by ambulance, Turcotte said.
Though he said he wasn’t injured, Stephen Cormier, 16, was taken to the hospital for an examination because of his young age, she said.
No further information about either person’s medical condition was available Friday night.
The accident occurred about 2:15 p.m. on a snowmobile trail off Kennebec Road.
According to Game Warden Rick Ouellette, Cormier and Mooers were traveling in opposite directions and both reached a narrow point in the trail at the same time. As they attempted to pass by each other, the skis of their snowmobiles became hooked.
Ouellette said neither speed nor alcohol were factors in the accident and that both men were wearing helmets.
Assisting Ouellette were Warden Jim Fahey and Hampden police and ambulance personnel.
