At Mesa, Ariz., Chris Burleson hit two doubles and two singles as the University of Southern Maine of Gorham defeated Johns Hopkins University of Baltimore. Ryan Gaffney hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning for the 3-1 Huskies. Jordan Berthiaume and Anthony D’Alfonso also homered. Lee Bolyard had a three-run home run for Johns Hopkins (5-6) and Ryan Biner hit a two-run double.
West Georgia 12, Bates 11
At Carrollton, Ga., an unearned run scored on a throwing error with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to give NCAA Division II West Georgia the come-from-behind win over the Bobcats of Lewiston. Michael Ciummei hit three singles and drove in three runs for Bates (2-2). Jake Simon hit a three-run homer in the seventh and Gordy Webb of Hampden had a double, single and two RBIs for the Bobcats. Tom Beaton singled twice and scored a run. Jud Jones went 4-for-5 for the 6-17 Wolves and Daniel Henley was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs.
