PORTLAND, Maine — Plans to generate wind power in Maine’s largest city are moving forward.
The Portland Planning Board voted Tuesday night to allow rezoning that would allow 100-foot-tall anemometer towers to be erected in the city. The Portland Press Herald says that means plans for two projects will move forward if city council endorses the planners’ recommendation and the zoning appeals board grants approval.
Project developers want to erect wind-measurement towers at the East End Community School on Munjoy Hill and at the Trott-Littlejohn Park on Peaks Island.
