HANOVER, N.H. — A women’s golf team from Maine has captured the Tri-State Tournament at the Hanover Country Club. It’s Maine’s first title since 2001.
A total of 32 women competed for the Maine team, which compiled a winning score of 149. Vermont placed second with 143, followed by New Hampshire.
“We are so proud to bring the Tri-State trophy back to Maine,” said Maine team captain Helen Plourd of Rockland. “Next year’s tournament will be held at the Waterville Country Club and we have every intention of defending our title.”
Teams from Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont compete each summer for the title. The two days of competition are played in three handicap divisions. The first day was a modified Stableford format and the second day was head-to-head match play.
Maine team members are Dale Hannon, Viola Kemp, Sharon Nelson, Debbie Garner, Marie Cates, Shirley Kile and Claudette Amoroso, of the Waterville Country Club of Oakland; Kathi O’Grady, Catherine Studley, and Micki Meggison from Sable Oaks of South Portland; Cecily Whiting from the Woodlands of Falmouth; Rose Lyons from Val Halla of Cumberland; Liz Wilshire of Natanis of Vassalboro; Helen Plourd, Madolin Fogarty and Donni Witham, from Rockland Golf Club; Bern Michaud from Fort Fairfield; Marianne Lee and Charleen Wiseman from Castine; Pam Johnson and Natalie Graceffa from Augusta Country Club of Manchester; Meriby Sweet, Bath; Gail Gleason, Goose River of Rockport; Diane Herring and Peg Buchanan, Hermon Meadow; Sheri Thomas, Penobscot Valley Country Club of Orono; Marlene Viger, Oakdale of Mexico; Judy Edgecomb, from Lakewood of Madison; Norma Michaud, Springbrook of Leeds; and Bobbi Berry from Sheepscot of Whitefield.
