YORK, Maine — Mascots dressed as a lobster, a moose and a lobster fisherman are giving out lighthouse calendar prints to motorists as they drive through the York toll plaza at the southern end of the Maine Turnpike.

This is the 10th Labor Day that the mascots — named Miles the Maine Turnpike Moose, D. Claude Lobster and Laney the Lobster Fisherman — have given away mementoes as tokens of appreciation to departing visitors.

The print features six Maine lighthouses and a calendar on the front and a listing of signature events in Maine this fall, ranging Eastport’s Maine Salmon Festival to the Common Ground Fair in Unity.

In all, the mascots will hand out some 15,000 prints.
