PERHAM – Clayton M. Blackstone Sr., 86, went home to be with his Lord, listening to the music he loved, sung by family, Jan. 11, 2010, at a local hospital. He was born May 10, 1923, in Perham, son of the Rev. Read W. and Addie (Fox) Blackstone. He was an active member of Dunntown Advent Christian Church, Wade, for many years, where he had been a deacon, a trustee and church treasurer. Clayton spent his adult life farming land, homesteaded by his ancestors. There he instilled in his family the Christian values passed on to him by his father and mother. Clayton loved spending time with and teasing his children and grandchildren. His quick wit and funny sense of humor stayed with him until the very end. He also loved listening to and playing the trumpet, and puttering in his garden after his retirement from farming. He is survived by his wife, Joyce (Barton) Blackstone of Perham; his sons and their wives, the Rev. Clayton and Hazel Blackstone Jr. of Bangor, Dale and Cynthia Blackstone of Crouseville, Doug and Barb Blackstone of Easton, David and Vicki Blackstone of Summerville, S.C., and Gary and Laurie Blackstone of Perham; a daughter, Karen Wark of Easton; 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dr. Donald R. Blackstone of Presque Isle and Lloyd D. Blackstone of Westbrook; a sister, Wilma Olsen of Jay; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a great-grandchild; and a brother, Bernard. Relatives and friends may call 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday at Dunntown Advent Christian Church, Wade, with the Rev. Clayton Blackstone Jr. and the Rev. George McLaughlin officiating. A spring interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Perham. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Dunntown Advent Christian Church, 20 North Wade Road, Wade, ME 04786.
