WATERVILLE, Maine — The longtime basketball coach at Colby College is stepping down after 40 years at the helm.
Colby officials announced Tuesday that Dick Whitmore is retiring after compiling a 637-341 record at the Division III school in Waterville, Maine. Colby says the 68-year-old Whitmore began the latest season ranking seventh in career victories among Division III basketball coaches and 46th among coaches in all divisions.
A 1965 graduate of Bowdoin College, Whitmore came to Colby in 1970 after five years of teaching and coaching at high schools.
