This What Is It was identified correctly as a brake for a logging sled by O.K. Blackstone of Caribou, Erny Levesque of Saint David, Mary Ouellette of Fort Kent and Yvon Dufour of Madawaska.
The hand-forged brake was used more to hold the sled in place and allow the horse to rest rather than to stop a moving sled.
