MANCHESTER, Maine — Police say a pit bull terrier attacked and killed a smaller dog, then injured three people, one of whom was hospitalized.

The male pit bill weighing about 120 pounds attacked and killed a smaller dog living in the same home Wednesday morning, according to the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Department.

A boy who tried to break up the fight was also attacked. His grandmother, Lena Walker, and 28-year-old Anthony Manganella, tried to protect the younger boy but were also attacked. Walker, who is 68, sustained wounds on her hands and legs and was in stable condition at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. Manganella was bitten in the arm and suffered fractures.

Police say the pit bull was finally shot and killed by a second boy living at the home.
