HERMON, Maine — A short section of Billings Road in Hermon was closed Sunday afternoon after an inexperienced equipment operator drove a front-end loader into a storage garage, according to Deputy Peter Garland of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department.

Garland said the garage, which served as a storage facility for a bottle redemption center, was destroyed in the incident, which was reported shortly after 2 p.m.

The front-end loader was badly damaged, as well, and had to be hauled away from the site on a flatbed truck, he said.

A section of Billings Road between Fuller Road and a nearby golf course was closed from about 2:30 to 3 p.m. No one was injured in the incident.
