COLUMBIA FALLS – Merton went to be with his Lord and Savior Aug. 16, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer. Mert was born March 19, 1938, to Verdi “Benny” P. Bagley and Floris Grant Bagley of Centerville.
Mert was the owner of Mert’s Concrete for more than 40 years, where he met people he befriended for life.
Mert is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lita Pineo Bagley; children, Nancy Bagley of Columbia Falls, Michael and wife, Marla, Merton Bagley Jr. and wife, Debra, and Lynn Lyford and husband, John, all of Addison; grandchildren, Elizabeth Walker, Donna Cox, Courtney Bagley, Kristen Schlaefer, Tina McKechnie, Douglas Hicks, Ashley Johnson, and Jason and Nicholas Lyford; great-grandchildren, Sandra and Mark Anthony, Zoie Sprague, Brad and Lyndsay McKechnie, Kylie and Sarah Lyford, and Ashra Schlaefer; two sisters, Mazie Dennison, Alice Jones and a sister-in-law, Lucy Harper. He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Nancy Bagley; a brother, Russell Bagley; and daughter-in-law, Cheryl Bagley. The family thanks the staffs at Mary Dow Center at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital; CancerCare of Maine; and Community Health and Counseling Services Hospice of Washington County.
