ROCKPORT, Maine — Police say a 19-year-old man being treated for drug abuse caused about $30,000 worth of damage when he went on a rampage at Pen Bay Medical Center Thursday night.
Rockport police said the teen, Trevor Libby of Rockland, had used bath salts, a synthetic stimulant that has been linked to disorientation, extreme paranoia and violent episodes.
The teen is now facing several charges but has not yet been arrested.
Libby was brought by police to the Pen Bay Medical Center emergency room on Oct. 25, when he said he wanted to “get clean.” The teen apparently was OK until Thursday, when he “became agitated for an undetermined reason,” according to Rockport police chief Mark Kelley.
The man had been in the special care unit, which has expensive windows and equipment, which Libby destroyed, police said.
“There was glass everywhere,” Kelley said.
Police said Libby hurt himself and was treated for cuts. No one else was injured.
Police and hospital staff then subdued the man, who remained at the hospital Friday.
