The new Hampton Inn is under construction on the Haskell Road, across from the Hilton Garden Inn, and is geared for a May 2012 opening.

AME Management Group, owner of both the Hilton and Hampton Inn, broke ground on the project in August. The new 113-room, three-story hotel will replace the existing Hampton Inn on Bangor Mall Boulevard, which will be reflagged as a Comfort Inn.

The new hotel will create 60 jobs. At 69,561 square feet, the hotel will wireless Internet, HD flat-screen TVs in all rooms, a fitness center featuring the latest equipment, a small indoor pool and Jacuzzi, a continental breakfast cafe, ergonomic furniture, and green materials.

Ed Dennis, managing partner for AME Management Group, told the BDN in August that regardless of the construction of Hollywood Slots, he thinks Bangor still would have grown, but much more slowly.

“I think over the last 20 years, Bangor’s had steady, consistent growth due to its relative proximity to Canada and being located along a major transportation route,” said Dennis. “Having I-95 go right through, Bangor International Airport here, and being a hub to all kinds of destinations like Bar Harbor and Baxter State Park and Acadia makes it an ideal destination.”
