BANGOR, Maine — Bangor police are investigating the death of a local child.
The death occurred Friday at a residence on Allen Street, where police spent Friday morning and afternoon gathering evidence.
Though little information about the death, including the child’s name and age, was released Friday, Bangor police Lt. Tim Reid said the death is not considered suspicious at this point.
Reid said state law requires that investigations and autopsies be performed in cases involving the death of children under the age of 3. City police are conducting the investigation, and the state medical examiner is schedule to conduct an autopsy on Saturday.
After police have conferred with the medical examiner, they will determine whether additional investigation is warranted, he said.
Reid declined to say whether the child had a known medical condition. He said it was not immediately clear whether the residence at which the death occurred is a single-familiy home or divided into apartments.

Another sad situation
So sad. Always terrible to hear of a child passing. Thoughts and prayers for the child and their family during this very difficult time.
So sad. Prayers are going out to the family
Not much of an article…
Yeah, Brandon, I agree, but (they) have to keep their options open, just in case it was not (natural) death (medical) and maybe later we will see the cause in print….I know when my son ( now 38) was small, he had pneumonia 8 times in his first 18 months of life……just over and over…..I never actually KNEW if the next trip to hospital would be his last day on earth……almost four decades later, I have found I am allergic to dairy products…..and, so, possible his baby formula almost killed him ……..who knew ??
I hear you. !! :-)
The 1970 bread truck in the picture made me think that this was a file photo from years ago.
I like it, the city has maintained and is still using an older vehicle. Rarely do you find thrift in governmental operations. As a Chevy fan, I can tell you that the van is a 1993 at the newest.
19 years old at best. That is thrifty.
I agree with David…if the van still does what its supposed to do,why should the taxpayers foot the bill for a new one? That would be foolish. I also agree that this story probably should have been left on the bottom of the pile for the family’s sake since there was no foul play involved. It was un necessary to print a photo of their house at the very least.
I wonder where they get it inspected, it must cost a fortune.
all I want to say is this is very sad the loss of a child
That makes us all sad. We haven’t gotten any details yet. Makes it seem like a homicide or accident maybe not.
One very important statement; “Bangor police Lt. Tim Reid said the death is not considered suspicious at this point.” If they do not feel this is suspicious why would the BDN choose to put the parents through more pain. Come on guys, we depend on you and expect better than this.
How is the paper putting the parents through “more pain”?
The BDN has done nothing wrong so I have no clue what you are typing about.
TMZ daily news .
the child is obviously under the age of 3! How sad!
:-(
Reid said state law requires that investigations and autopsies be performed in cases involving the death of children under the age of 3. Why not age 4? and up? I’d say at least until 18, unless there was a known underlying medical condition.
I hope alcohol , drugs or pitbulls aren’t involved.
tragic.
If Pit Bulls were involved it would have been part of the head line….
Not necessarily………they don’t report the entire story anymore……they string you along for hours if not days……..hoping to increase readership.
haha you are so right!!
wonder if it is ayla from waterville
doubt it very highly. Read the news report from earlier
Must be nice to throw out causes for wild speculation from the comfort and anonymity of your home computer. Then again, how much should society expect from someone who is a fan of Bush? I hope the father of this child figures out who you are and treats you accordingly.
Race car driver or the President.
I think he is still in jail.
What are you talking about bushfan? the Father in jail???? the father followed the ambulance to the hospital while the mother rode in the ambulance. with the baby. good grief people.
My mistake, I guess he got out then.
u know something we dont eveidentally…? sad for the child regardless
Yes I do. Keep reading the news and you will too. I have faith in the BDN reporters.
hahahahahahahaha
lmao Bushfan. You are special. Can I say that without getting reported? I have more suitable names i’m sure but I don’t want my account deleted. =)
The baby was a couple of weeks old and he died in his sleep. There isn’t a story here folks. It’s very sad, but certainly not worth all of this speculation. May he rest in peace, poor little guy.
amen.
If they have to be there all day collecting evidence and have a state medical examiner come that would lead me to believe someone finds something suspicious here
so, with the little bit that the paper has reported, you are already blaming the parents?
I do not blame anyone on what I read in the BDN.
Do ANY of you truly have compassion or a working heart? Yes, it seems some of those posting do and know how to utilize them both. SIDS…Sudden Infant Death Syndrome can and does happen. NOTHING can be done to prevent it nor to prepare for it. Certainly, doctors tell us to try this sleep position, try that one, don’t leave loose blankets nearby for the baby to smother, don’t sleep with an infant, etc. How much good does this do? Not much. If a baby is going to succumb to SIDS, it will. It can anytime prior to 18 months of age. It is NOT the fault of the parents.
I am utterly astounded by the ill will shown in so many posts on this site. I am absolutely amazed by people’s cruelty, judgements, and, hmmm, omnipotence and omnipresence.
Megalomania? It is rampant on this board.
So once again, folks, WAIT for the results. THINK before judging. WAIT before judging. THINK, again. Offer compassion not critiques of a negative nature, first.
Bet that shoe on the foot of negative nellies would hurt a lot.
My sympathies to the family and friends of the family involved. May you know peace, eventually.
Namaste!
Sids is absolutely not the fault of any parent. Fortunately, children are now tested prior to being released from the hospital for the “breathing behaviors” that lead to Sids…. it is easily detected and, when found, parents are given monitors for those children to wear….. this has helped so much. My cousin died of Sids many, many years ago. Four of the children born in my extended family since has tested “positive” for needing the Sids monitoring device. So glad it was available!!
Thank you so much for that piece of info. I am glad to know they CAN test for this now. You just made my day.
“the age of the child is not being released at this time”…since it’s
not considered suspicious, and an autopsy is being performed, then the
child must be age 3 or younger
why the picture now everyone with a sick sense of morbidity will be cruising the street looking for that house
Not another one……….
Been a bad week for deaths in Maine.
so sad, to many little one’s dieing of some cause. i feel bad for the family having something so pure and precious giving to u then taken away so quickly no one deserve’s that especially the child :(
Bath Salts
o.k. I just didn’t understand why required wasn’t placed until 18. I don’t understand what the difference is between 3 and 4. Obviously, if there is suspicion they would hopefully do an autopsy automatically.
