BANGOR, Maine — A U.S. Airways flight headed from Bangor International Airport to Philadephia on Friday morning had to head back to BIA shortly after takeoff because of smoke detected in the airplane, according to airport officials.
Assistant Airport Director Tony Caruso said Flight 3101, which carried 77 passengers and four crew members, was forced back to the runway after “there was an indication of smoke in the rear lavatory.”
Bangor firefighters met the aircraft as it landed at 7:32 a.m., and after everything proved to be in order, the plane departed for Philadelphia at 8:48 a.m., according to Caruso.
No passengers or crew members were injured.
“Smoke in the rear”…. sounds like my old Chevy, she’s made many a trip to PA and back, smoking all the way.
