BANGOR, Maine — A search of a suspicious man, who later admitted to using bath salts, turned up a BB gun, assorted pocket knives and throwing stars early Wednesday morning.

Sgt. Chip Hodges said Bangor police received a call around 4:30 a.m. from an Elm Street resident reporting that a suspicious person had been pounding on the front door.

Officer Kim Donnell arrived to find Mark Chubbuck, 46, standing near the front door of a neighboring residence. When questioned, Chubbuck said he was looking for his sister’s house.

During questioning, Donnell noticed a black object sticking out of Chubbuck’s jacket pocket. He reportedly informed Donnell that it was a BB gun. She placed Chubbuck in handcuffs for safety reasons.

Officer Russ Twaddell then arrived to provide assistance. After learning the man’s identity, officers found he was out on bail and had three outstanding warrants in Penobscot County and another warrant in Cumberland County.

A search of a backpack he was carrying produced a large plastic bag filled with smaller plastic bags which Hodges said is “typically used in the sale of drugs.” He also reportedly was carrying assorted pocket knives, throwing stars and a set of copper pipe and wire cutters.

Chubbuck allegedly admitted to jail staff that he had used bath salts within the last 24 hours.

He remained at Penobscot County Jail late Wednesday and is charged with the sale and use of drug paraphernalia, carrying a concealed weapon, four outstanding warrants and violation of bail conditions.
