BLACK RIVER, N.Y. – Leroy C. Mosher died Jan. 4, 2012, attended by his family and Jefferson County Hospice workers, at home. Leroy was born April 9, 1937, in Bangor, to Howard Mosher and Wenona (White) Mosher.
A graduate of Dartmouth High School in Massachusetts, he later attended New Bedford Institute of Technology. He entered the National Guard in 1961 and continued in the Army Reserve until his retirement in 1982 with the rank of lieutenant colonel. For his service to his country during the Vietnam War he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal with first Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Medal First Class, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm and Vietnam Service Medal. After his retirement he served in a civilian capacity at Fort Drum, N.Y., until 2008. A voracious reader Leroy was a volunteer at Sally Ploof Memorial Library, Black River, N.Y., and North Side Improvement League. He had a keen appreciation of vintage cars and enjoyed lively political debate.
He is survived by his daughter, Saabrina W. Mosher of Bangor; son and daughter-in-law, David and Amanda Mosher of Stillwater; wife, Ruth Aucter and stepdaughter, Kimberly Aucter, of Black River, N.Y.; first wife, Catherine Mosher of Stillwater; stepmother, Anne Mosher; stepsister, Debbie Russo, both of Westport Point, Mass.; and stepbrothers, Hank of Dartmouth, Mass., and Wayne Seaman of Manchester, N.H.
A memorial service was held Jan. 13, in Black River, N.Y. There will be a spring interment at Lawndale Cemetery, Old Town.
