HERMON, Maine — A Glenburn teenager was arrested on multiple charges after he reportedly injured a Penobscot County sheriff’s deputy during a scuffle Sunday night in the parking lot outside Morgan Hill Event Center, where a formal dance hosted by a high school girls sorority was under way.

Bangor High School student Tyler Omlor, 18, has been charged with assault on a police officer — a Class C felony — as well as disorderly conduct, refusing to submit to arrest, illegal possession of alcohol by a minor by consumption and possession of a usable amount of marijuana, Sgt. Micheal Burgess of Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department said Tuesday afternoon.

Deputy Peter Garland suffered a leg injury while trying to get Omlor out of a rented limousine in which he and likely others had been consuming alcohol, Burgess said. Garland was taken to St. Joseph Hospital for X-rays and treatment, Burgess said.

Burgess said that police were called to Morgan Hill to look into a report of disorderly conduct in the parking lot. Two sheriff’s deputies and two state police troopers went to the center, he said.

When officers arrived, they noted that it appeared some of the teenagers who had been in the vehicle had consumed alcohol. Police ordered everyone out of the limousine, Burgess said. Omlor reportedly refused, requiring Garland to have to go in to get him.

The student appeared to be intoxicated at the time, Burgess said.

Burgess said the dance at Morgan Hill was hosted by the Sub Debs, a club or sororitylike organization composed of Bangor High School girls but not affiliated with the high school.

Superintendent Betsy Webb could not be reached for comment late Tuesday afternoon.

Burgess said the incident remains under investigation. Among the questions police are working to answer is how the teens obtained the alcohol.

Some of the students suspected of drinking outside the formal are believed to be part of the group of more than two dozen students charged with illegal possession of alcohol during a party last month at Lincoln camp. Several were student-athletes who were suspended from their sports or activities for two weeks.

Omlor was fined $100 in November of last year for driving without a license, according to court listings published in the Bangor Daily News. He is out on bail.

  1. They do not say what this 18 year old boy did to a highly trained officer. Maybe a course in limo extraction saftey is in order here. At least he was not driving ya know boys will be boys

    1. Oh yeah “Boys will be Boys”.  One of the most intelligent comments ever heard.  They always are until someone is hurt or killed.  I guess that’s just good fun too.  I happen to know this young man and have seen his immature actions in the past.  Maybe that’s what you want in the future but I raise my children to act respectfully to everyone.  Hopefully you don’t have any children for us to worry about.

  2. This dance has been a very bad thing for the youth in Bangor.. The school claims it is not connected.

    1. Bangor high banned “frats” a long time ago. They cannot regulate what students do off property. The school is not connected, why do you insinuate it is? The dance was fine and is not the problem, I am sure most of the kids there were not drinking. The limo driver is in trouble though, I am sure. I am thinking you are against dances in general.

  3. This is a trend that has been going on in the Bangor area for a couple of years now. Kids don’t like the fact that school dances are regulated. Grinding is not allowed, drinking and drugs are not allowed so now they are going to dances held off school property like this one in Hermon. They know they can party in the parking lot, use what ever substances they want and still go in and hang out with the rest of their crew.  Parents need to know where their kids are and what they are doing.

    1. Sub Debs have been held off the Bangor campus for decades. Since well before I graduated in 1990.  And I would suggest teens have not liked having their dancing “chaperoned” for much longer then that. :)

  4. No evidence of a crime being committed is reported.

    Post facto “evidence” is scary.

    In a rented limo?

    1. It’s called disorderly conduct, underage drinking.  Just because you’re in a vehicle doesn’t mean it’s not a crime.

      1. The article provides no evidence of disorderly conduct prior to the citizens being ordered to exit the vehicle.

Perhaps such disorderly conduct took place, I do not know.  Two sheriffs and two State Police officers should indicate some sort of serious problem, yet none is mentioned.

Young adults drinking and dancing, all the while not driving.  What is the world coming to?

        Heavens to Murgatroid.

        1. If a complaint was not made the officers would not have responded.  I’m sure the officer did not want to end up in the hospital, but he did because of this man’s actions.  Obviously the young adult could not control himself under the circumstances.  He’s what the world’s coming to.  Stop making excuses.

    1. Officer used least means of force by trying to escort the subject out of the vehicle.  The subject then assaulted the officer causing injury.  After that it all depends on if the subject decided to comply or not.

  5. Whats going on at Bangor High School?  First, some athletes kill a man  in front of a local bar and get away with it (or so it seems).  Second, a huge party is broken up in Lincoln and a lot of the kids were athletes that had been using drugs or alcohol.  Third, this story…and thats just the incidents that we have heard or read about!    I wonder what chapter 4 of this book will play out…sounds like an episode of Dateline NBC

    1. The Bangor School Department at it’s finest. First part of investigation, Who are mommy and daddy? Do they have money? Are they on the School Committee? That is the way a BSD investigation works.

  6. 18 and a m-16 in hand and in uniform you’re a man,18 get married and start a family you’re a man, 18 getting high, drunk, and hanging out with high school girls and now you’re a kid. Give me a break society,, if this kid had child porn on his computer, or impregnated a fellow high school daughter of your’s he’s an instant man again. We are all hypocrits and owe this young man an explanation of what we expect of him because aparently his parents could not. Police officer should have called his parents and let them deal with it and the limo. company should be in jail for contributing to the delinquency of a minor or minors.

    1. So the officer should let him go and show him it’s alright to break the law? That’s a good message to send young people!

        1. Why?  If he drank it, he knows the law.  Just because the limo has an alcohol supply doesn’t mean he has to drink it.

          1. Because he’s a man, right?  Or is he a child?  Man enough for marriage and war,  but too childish for booze.  Even man enough to go to jail.  Man enough smoke.  Don’t touch that beer, though!

          2. He should absolutely be charged for the assault.  I’m not arguing that point.  And do some serious time.  He needs to learn to respect the police. I’m just confused by this double standard.  He is a man when it comes to some hefty issues,  and a child when it comes to others.

          3. confused??? whats confusing. he obviously isn’t MAN enough to consume alcohol,  his own actions in the back of that limo prove this without a reasonable doubt…

      1. Respect should be given when received I can guarantee the police officers were less than respectful.

  7. i think part of that group showed up at walmart the other night they were in a white limo. they acted like they were on booze. the girls were noisy. there was about 15 of them. i believe it was saturdayday night . you ought to be thankful they arent using bathsalts . it was late about 1030

  8. A lot of these kids are throwing away their lives real quick with stupid decisions.  Good luck getting into college if you’re convicted on a felony.  Would you like fries with that?

  9. I would like to comment that almost all of these comments are personal attacks.  It looks to me like Bangor daily news does their best to make high school kids look terrible.

    1. It looks to me like these students are making themselves look terrible on their own without ANY help from the BDN.

  10. Another scumbag from Glenburn starting early.  I hope they suspend all these kids as well….bet many of them are repeat offenders from the last time.  And seriously? Parents got their kids a PARTY BUS for this stupid NON SCHOOL SANCTIONED event? The parents of BHS students really need to start facing reality about what kind of kids THEY are making by spoling them so friggin rotten and allowing them to be complete and total morons with NO reprucssions.  Nothing but a bunch of drunk/high sluts and scumbags.
