BANGOR, Maine — A local man found not guilty last week of threatening his girlfriend while on he was bath salts has been charged with assaulting a corrections official and a fellow inmate at Penobscot County Jail.
Jeremy Lau, 35, of Bangor, who is serving a five-month sentence for an assault conviction, was found not guilty of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon by Superior Court Justice William Anderson on Jan. 18 after a one-day jury-waived trial.
Lau allegedly threatened his girlfriend with a kitchen knife and then cut himself across his neck in October at her Stillwater Avenue apartment, according to a previously published report.
Anderson found that the Penobscot County District Attorney’s Office had not proved beyond a reasonable doubt that the girlfriend felt threatened, Michael Roberts, deputy district attorney for Penobscot County, said last week.
Lau remains at Penobscot County Jail serving the five-month sentence for the previous assault conviction. Information about that incident was not available Friday.
Bail on the new charges was set earlier this week at $10,000 on the assault on a corrections officer, a Class B crime, and $7,000 on the assault charge, a Class C crime. If convicted, Lau faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $20,000 on the more serious charge of assaulting a corrections officer.
Lau is expected to be indicted next month by the Penobscot County grand jury on the new charges.

It sounds as if this person needs psychiatric help. Let’s hope he finds it. In the meantime, let us also hope that his former? girlfriend does indeed have a safe place to be. If he is willing to hurt himself, he is not far from hurting her either.
Seems like he should have been taken to the hospital before jail, just saying.
Sounds like he is heading for the “Big House” now. If he acts like that he will get an attitude adjustment there.

I bet you the judge has never been threatened at knife point. What kind of admissible evidence would it take to show that the victim felt threatened? Did she need to go to a dr. to tell them that she was scared?? Does the word of a victim mean nothing to judges? More proof that Maine Judges don’t give a damn about victims of crime.
