BANGOR, Maine — A local man who recently sold Ritalin to someone working with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency was charged with a felony because the drug deal took place near a school, MDEA Division Commander Darrell Crandall said Monday.
“We were able to buy some of the tablets from him and that transaction occurred in a school zone,” he said.
Robert Kerr, 40, of Bangor was charged last week with aggravated drug trafficking, a charge that could send him to prison for up to 30 years and carries a fine of up to $50,000. He was booked into the Penobscot County Jail at 5:45 p.m. Jan. 24 and remained in jail on Monday night, a jail official said.
The drug deal occurred within 1,000 feet of Abraham Lincoln School, which is on Forest Avenue, according to Brad Johnston, MDEA supervisory special agent for the Bangor area.
Ritalin is used to treat attention deficit disorder but is often diverted and used as a stimulant, Crandall said.
“It is a substance that mirrors the effects of amphetamines or methamphetamines,” he said.
Kerr was convicted of theft by unauthorized taking or transfer and for domestic violence assault in May and has previous convictions for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and operating without a license, according to Bangor Daily News archives.
They prescribe this stuff like it was pez to any kind that gives the teacher even a little bit of trouble. This guy was just helping out with that.

I know I’m a nit-picker but when it comes to mental illness and the medication used there is WAY to much misinformation passed along through the ‘public without knowing what they are talking about.
lemme give ya a few examples.
Schizophrenia has NOTHING TO DO WITH MULTIPLE PERSONALITIES perhaps in the dark ages it as misunderstood but we’re smarter then the average Barbarian, RIGHT?
saying someone has a PERSONALITY DISORDER without being able to identify WHICH ONE is kind of like telling me you have a bottle of wine. You know they have a bottle of wine. That’s it.There are MANY DIFFERENT personality disorders and yet I see people commenting saying, “They probably have a personality disorder” Do you even understand what that means?? If ya don’t know then please don’t make ignorant comments. Do the research. At some point you’ll find yourself wondering what really makes people tick, What motivates their actions. there are reasons. they don’t always make that much sense to outsiders but it does to them and it’s NOT AN ACT.

Ritalin is NOT an amphetamine. Do your homework a little better. Adderall is an amphetamine. Ritalin is methylphenidate. It doesn’t even come up on a drug test, you have to test specifically for methylphenidate.
My point was that to suggest that it’s effects are somehow less then that of an amphetamine but SIMILAR are absurd. It is speed, that was my point. The way it was stated was to make it appear less harmful.

Obviously if something mirrors the effects of amphetamine, it’s speed. I wouldn’t take “Mirrors the effects” to mean ‘less than’ no matter where it is used.

30 years… right. A few years ago a drug ring was convicted for selling drugs, in the same area I believe. One of the guilty was hanging out at the lake 2 summers later and is still out free.
I think BDN got their info wrong,…That close to a school he was most likely scoring some.
So, if they were selling this stuff somewhere else, away from a school, it would have been okay?
