BANGOR, Maine — A Connecticut man pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of an unregistered destructive device — namely a Molotov cocktail — during an appearance Wednesday in U.S. District Court.

Alex Glossian, 25, and another unnamed individual made Molotov cocktails on June 2, 2010, using gasoline and 40-ounce beer bottles, according to court documents.

Two of the devices were then lit and thrown through the windows of a home on Oak Hill Road on Indian Island. One of the devices was retrieved intact from the house, U.S. Attorney Thomas Delahanty II announced in a news release. The second device ignited after shattering a bedroom window and caused extensive damage.

In a news release issued after the incident, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said that a man who was inside the house at the time escaped injury and was able to partially extinguish the fire before the Indian Island Fire Department arrived.

The investigation that led to Glossian’s guilty plea was a joint effort of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms and Tobacco and the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Glossian faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. He will be sentenced after the completion of a presentence investigation report by the U.S. Probation Office.

  1. “Alex Glossian, 25, and another unnamed individual made Molotov cocktails”

I wonder if Glossian is the witness against that other person. It seems like he pleaded to a charge that is much less than we would expect under the circumstances. Maybe we’ll be seeing something like an attempted murder charge brought against the other individual.

    1. How about adding terrorism and attempted Murder just to name a few and BTW Judge, strike the word “suspended” from your vocabulary.

  2. The real charge should have been terrorizing or attempted murder.  molotov cocktails don’t kill people; people kill people.

  3. to throw one of these things into a home one has to be thinking someone will maybe die or be injured.no question damage will be done.. at 25 years old he should never be let out of prison.. just ten years in prison for arson and attemted murder….maybe he has relatives in the law enforcement end of things to get such a slap on the hand
