OLD TOWN, Maine — A Hermon woman was airlifted to a Bangor hospital Friday evening after the car she was driving collided with a tractor-trailer at the intersection of Bennoch Road and Exit 199 of Interstate 95.
Old Town police Sgt. Scott Casey said the accident happened at 4:50 p.m. after 27-year-old Holly Martin of Hermon left the northbound lanes of I-95 at Exit 199 and turned onto Bennoch Road, where she collided with a tractor-trailer on the overpass.
Both Martin and the truck driver — 29-year-old Brian Reeves of Bangor — were the only occupants of their vehicles. Reeves was not injured, Casey said.
Fire crews from Alton, Old Town and Orono were called to the accident scene to remove the woman from the wreckage, he said.
A LifeFlight helicopter took the woman to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, Casey said. Information about the extent of her injuries or her medical condition was not available. EMMC’s nursing supervisor said EMMC didn’t have any patient by that name late Saturday afternoon.
The crash prompted the closure of Exit 199 and the section of Route 116 that runs from the junction of Route 16 to the interstate. Those access points were still closed off as of 9:30 p.m.
Casey said police still were trying to determine was caused the crash. On-scene accident reconstruction was finished by Saturday morning. Officer Lee Miller of the Old Town Police Department is conducting an accident reconstruction study. Results of the study may be available in a week.
Other agencies that assisted at the accident scene included personnel from the Maine State Police’s commercial vehicle enforcement division and the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department.
