DEXTER, Maine — Dexter police are seeking information related to a burglary of Log Cabin Grocery early Wednesday morning.

The store, which has been closed since December, is located at 809 Dover Road on Route 7.

“They were probably looking for cigarettes, beer and money, but all that had been taken out of the store by the owner [after it closed],” said Dexter Police Chief Jim Emerson. “They took some little things like knives and lighters.”

Emerson said the stolen cigarette lighters stood out because they looked like regular Bic lighters but were a foot tall and camouflage-colored.

“They’d be unique if someone saw them,” said Emerson.

Emerson said three different sets of boot prints were found. The burglary is believed to have occurred between midnight and 3 a.m. Wednesday because a neighbor noticed a light had been shut off.

“They pulled the [power] meter right out of the box on the side of the store,” said Emerson, adding that neighbors didn’t witness anything.

Dexter police are asking residents with any information to call 924-7622.

      1. If you have read the paper lately it has been occuring much more frequently in the last 2 months ! Yes it has happened before, but i would dare say there is a level of it almost everywhere and has been . I think the level has increased enough so people who didnt pay attention to it before are going to have to start to now !

  1. People are jerks.  How do you think the owners feel?  Sad. Violated.  And after what they do for the community – how sad.
