ROCKPORT, Maine — A Connecticut family of six escaped injury Saturday afternoon but a local woman was taken to the hospital after a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Route 1 and Main Street.
Police said Jill Maier, 46, of Plainville, Conn., was driving on Main Street at 3:19 p.m. when she came to the Route 1 intersection.
“She assumed it was a four-way stop in all directions and proceeded into Route 1,” Patrolman Dana Smith of the Rockport Police Department said Sunday.
Maier, who was traveling with five people and the family dog in a Nissan minivan, collided with a Dodge minivan driven by Judith Truesdell, 67, of Camden.
“Luckily, Judith was going slow,” Smith said.
The speed limit on that section of the heavily traveled coastal thoroughfare is 35 mph.
Truesdell complained of knee pain and was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport for treatment.
Smith said the air bags of both minivans deployed in the crash. No one was injured in Maier’s vehicle, which had approximately $5,000 in damage. Truesdell’s vehicle had about $2,000 in damage.

She sounds pretty boneheaded to me. Why would you ever assume that another driver has a stop sign and then pull out in front of them?
