PORTLAND, Maine — Gov. Paul LePage said he is not impressed with the field of contenders in the Republican presidential race and he would like to see the final choice decided in a floor fight at the Republican National Convention in Tampa this summer.

The outspoken Republican governor, who was the tea party favorite when he was elected in 2010, told Maine Today Media in Sunday’s editions that his party needs a “fresh face” to challenge President Barack Obama in the fall.

While attending the National Governors Association meeting in Washington this weekend, LePage told reporters that he was hoping for a floor fight at the party convention to choose a nominee.

“I would love to see a good old-fashioned convention and a dark horse come out and do it in the fall,” LePage said, adding that he didn’t have a particular alternative candidate in mind.

“The candidates in this primary have beat themselves up so badly it would be nice to have a fresh face that we all could say, ‘OK.’ The country deserves better than having people stand up and keep criticizing each other,” LePage said.

Following his comments to reporters, LePage’s press secretary emailed a clarification to reporters saying that the governor would support whoever wins the nomination and that the country is better off electing anyone over Obama.

His comments came as Republicans Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum compete for front-runner status with a win in Tuesday’s Michigan primary.
Romney, Santorum, Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul all are vowing to battle into May or even June for the 1,144 delegates needed to win the nomination. It has been several decades since there was a brokered presidential nominating process.

LePage also criticized the Maine Republican Party’s handling of its nonbinding presidential caucuses, saying they were “poorly handled.”

Romney was declared the winner of the caucuses earlier this month, but the exclusion of postponed caucuses in Washington County and the need for a recount because of a variety of counting mistakes and omissions drew widespread criticism.

  1. This is one h*ll of a good idea.

    Our governor is a genius!

I’ll feel much better if people like Mr. LePage and State Republican Chairman Charlie Webster pick the GOP nominee to go up against Presient Obama.

Let’s wait until August when these guys (I do mean guys, no girls allowed) can get together and work it out over drinks.

I agree with Mr. LePage. None of the current crop of wanna bees is any good.

Good on ya guvnah. And here I was thinking he’d put his foot in his mouth down there at the national governors’ conference. Yes siree, it just goes to show how wrong a person can be.

  2. The funny thing about this story is that Mr. LePage doesn’t understand why reporters would be asking him questions in the first place. Paul it’s not because they think you have something important to say, it’s because they know that you’re going to say something outrageously stupid again and they‘ll get another great headline. Sadly, your pompous self-serving impression of yourself has yet again provided every Mainer one more moment of embarrassment. Do us all a favor Paul, “Lie” (Pun intended) lower.

    1. The funnier thing is that you have no idea why reporters print those comments in the paper.  So folks like you will spend your day on their site, making them money.  Still its not because they think these words from LePage are important or anything.

      Glad I can help.

    2. He’s the New York Times ‘go to’ Governor, because he consistently gives them a quote that is either inane or obnoxious.  You have to wonder if Maine would be better served by having him skip these sorts of events.

        1.  It’s fairly obvious LePage is using Maine as his stepping stone….problem is he’s already fallen into the river and nobody WANTS to save him. After Maine his political career will be over….Thank God !

    3. To StillRelaxin-name says it all! Speak for yourself-you are the one who has demonstrated his/her stupidity by posting the comment. Most Mainers like LePage-That is why he was elected-HELLO-I’m sure that you won’t be StillRelaxin when you vote obama in for another term-Do yourself a favor an educate yourself a bit before making rediculouss statements on line.

      1.  “Most Mainers like LePage” … I think you need some serious lessons in math!  Oh, and it is spelled “ridiculous”, in case you add spelling to your study time.

      2.  I can’t think of any1 I know who would say today that they like Paul. I know 1 person who voted for him and wished she hadn’t and someone else who voted for 1 of the dark horse candidates and now wishes she voted for Cutler.

      3. Sooooo…1maineguide, what do you think about the story or the person it’s about? It seems a bit “Rediculouss” for someone as “Educated” as yourself to deflect so far from the story only to be fixated on little old private citizen Still don’t cha think? Oh well, considering the real subject of the story I guess I can’t blame you for trying to deflect the conversation to something, really ANYTHING other than 38% (And sharply falling every week) Paulie for President LePage. Lauren for V.P.!!!!!  Thanks for the chuckles, this was fun!

      4.  No dummy…LePage was elected on 39% of the vote….probably because there were too many people running to begin with. You are the stupid one if you think you speak for the “majority”. Look at the facts…for instance….the large increase in poor and elderly registering to vote…hmmm ? Wonder why that is ? Your poster boy is on his first and last term and will probably be happy to be elected as a shoe shine boy in Augusta after this calamity of an administration. I will be there to ENJOY his departure and I’ve never been on welfare. His new cuts will drive the PAYING people out of Maine as our property taxes go skyward to pay for his pipe dreams.

        1. O K Dude-You keep voting in the Libs and Obama once again and see where we are in another four years. Just because someone has the balls to make some deeply needed adjustments, he/she gets derailed by the Liberal Progressives or whatever you want to be called. Did you hear or see the Congress woman who asked if all big businesses could be run by the government. How about the Congressman from Alabama who asked the General in charge at GITMO , if the island was in danger of capsizing because of all the weight placed on it by detainees. Dumb people make dumb decissions and voting in Obama again would be dumb-but he will get there again. When it all hits the fan, don’t come knocking on my door.
I suppose Baldacci would have everything back on an even keel by sending jobs out of State?

          Yeah…..right.

        2. By the way-39% was the majority, Dummy. Too bad not more that 52% of eligible folks voted, but what the heck, YOU voted in the Messiah-How’s that hope and change bull working for you? I’d take George Bush any day, at least he can prove that he is an American and a Christian. Better polish up on Chinese culture-you’re gonna need it soon. What don’t you get?

      1. Wouldn’t that also mean that I have some of the very same qualities you admire in a great leader? Oh boy you’ve given me “LePage Powers!” My first order to you (My newest blind follower) is to stop deflecting from stories by making personal attacks on the comments of average Joe citizens. We wouldn’t want your comments to be deleted or you to be banned from posting. Don’t worry about your conservative friends thinking you’ve gone soft by using appropriate communication skills or gained any insights based on facts. If they ask you what you’re doing just tell them the “New Big Head” gave you new marching orders not to be so nasty towards your fellow citizens. They won’t understand our new way of thinking but after a few century’s of exposure to niceness who knows what could happen?

    1.  I am dumbfounded that any1 thinks LePage is smarter than Obama. First off, who has the most class? Regardless of the color of their skin or how fat or thin they are, which one would you have wanted to take to school and introduce  as your dad when you were a child?

  3. Yeah, screw all those voters who went out to the primaries and caucuses! I’m sure they’ll be real pleased to vote again in November when schmucks like you decide to override their candidate.

    1. The only way the GOP has a brokered convention is if no candidate gets the minimum delegates needed to secure the nomination. In which case, the people have spoken in the primaries and caucuses and they have said “none of the above, overall”. Then it will come down to who wins the brawl for delegates at the national convention.

      1. How exactly can a brokered convention imply none of the above? It would mean several candidates gained a lot of popularity — so why not, one of the above? I don’t understand how you could get to choosing someone entirely new, someone who wasn’t vetted, through all that.

  4. and most of us are not impressed with LePage. I for one can’t believe anyone would seek out an opinion from our chief dolt,  perhaps they were looking for some comic relief.

  5.  The current field of Republican candidates are attacking each other ………. which LePage said breaks Ronald Reagan’s rule about not speaking ill of a fellow Republican.<<<<<<<<< After which Lepage proceeded to insult every single Republican nominee as well as the head of the  Maine Republican party..
Lepage has got to be the dumbest Governor in the history of civilization.

    1.  Maybe the Penquin  thinks he could be the winner of a fight from the floor. May God help us every one.

  6. I would be impressed if I could  just to find one honest politician on either party that actually cared about the people and not lining his pockets!  It’s really too bad there aren’t any!

    1. You’ve hit the nail right on the head, the only problem is that the only way we would ever get a truly honest politician will be when the money flow is cut and a normal non-millionaire can afford to run.

A question that I’ve asked several times and have yet to get an answer ……………. Why would a person spend $MILLIONS for a job that only pays a few Hundred Thousand dollars per year???

  7. “LePage says the entire GOP field is damaged goods because the candidates have spent too much time bashing each other.”
He’s partly correct.  The entire GOP field is damaged goods but the reason is because they all promise conservatism while advancing radical ideas such as making everyone but the wealthy pay more while we we spend less and less on America and more and more on waging imperialistic war on the rest of the world–because they talk about smaller government and more personal responsibility while growing the size of government and intruding into our right to choose what we do with our bodies–because they talk about cleaning up government while using countless millions of dollars of corporate funding while smearing mud on everyone that doesn’t march lockstep with their antiquated beliefs.  If the GOP truly wants a “fresh face” to represent them, they will most likely need to look outside the modern republican power brokers.

    1.  I expect your ideas are far more radical and out of the political mainstream than where America has been for the last 60 years.

      1. Cheesey, hahaha.  you are so out of the loop.  It frightens me because you just don’t get it.  Gawd help us if all conservatives think like you.

    2.  Don’t you think it’s funny how Lepage is bashing fellow Republicans for the crime of bashing fellow Republicans?

      1. Nicely put.  I wish the GOP electorate would wake up and realize they are supporting a tweedle-beetle battle between narcissistic tyrants.

        1.  Right on target ! But four (4) years too late – make one change and it becomes a truism.

(I wish the DEM electorate would wake up and realize they are supporting a tweedle-beetle battle between narcissistic tyrants.)

          Gingrich = narcissist
          Obama = narcissist
          Clinton = 3/4 narcissist   or maybe 7/8th
          Kerry = narcissist
          Edwards = narcissist
          Bubba Clinton = narcissist
          .
          .
          .

  8. OK, with all the usual “LePage is stupid, LePage is vile” comments by the usual crew out of the way, would anyone care to consider that in this case he may also be right? I don’t get the impression that the Republican base is very enthusiastic about any of the candidates and a wise choice by the party elders might elicit sighs of relief.

Of course, this being the Republican party – and the Republican party being what it is – they’d probably pick Bloomberg.

    1. Better yet, pick Palin or Trump…Obama will sure to be reelected!
The GOP has one foot nailed to floor and the whole bunch is just going in circles!

      1.  Yep, picking Palin was sure a stroke of genius, I may have voted fro McCain until she became part of the ticket.

  9. This is something I and a lot of others have been hoping for. Gov LePage speaks for a lot of us on this. A brokered convention would seal Obama’s fate.   Mitch Daniels – Marco Rubio or Jeb Bush -Condi Rice.

    1. Oh, that’s what the nation needs – another Bush.  We don’t need another Bush in office – even if he is supposed to be the ‘smart’ one.

      1. Yeah another BUSH DEPRESSION for  8 more years. The Bush family has destroyed what is left of America. Three unpaid wars. The Chinese will be able to buy us out at fireside prices.

        1.  It wasn’t Bush that had 22 Illegal Chinese campaign contributors convicted or indicted? Remember a Democrat President that had those friends?

    2. So desperate. That’s what all those flavor of the week surges were about. Bachmann, Cain, Perry, etc. — all hoping for one magical savior of a candidate. Doesn’t exist.

  10. The subtext of LePage’s comments is his desire to become the GOP Presidential or Vice Presidential nominee himself.

    1. Wrong they aren’t nervous. It’s the Liberals who should be nervous Obama can’t get above 50% approval in most polls .  His numbers on the economy are pathetic.  Trust me once a nominee is picked the majority of the country we will do everything to get behind that nominee. Why because the majority of us want him gone.  He has destroyed our economy, country, quality of life with his radical socialist agenda. His goofy arrogant smile makes us all want to puke.

      1. I don’t like Obama and didn’t vote for him (supported the only honest man in the race – Ralph Nader), but would you please explain for me how Obama – single-handedly, even with a Republican Congress and House and with Bush already started down the same roads Obama has taken – – how Obama has

“destroyed our economy, country, quality of life with his radical socialist agenda,” which appears to be a direct quote from Limbaugh or another such over-paid talk radio person.

Please tell us what, exactly, you mean by this – examples, please.  Thanks.

        1. They won’t be able to get exactly what they mean until they listen to Rush or Glenn make it up. And of course the wing nuts will accept whatever these bozos say as “THE TRUTH”.

I think Obama has been a very average President (and did vote for him), but the alternatives???????????? They are the ones with a radical SOCIAL agenda: Dominionism! Cast light on its ugliness!

  11. It wouldn’t matter what he “wanted”.   The floor fight is inevitable,  given the results of that debacle of a caucus.   Master of the obvious he is.

  12. I guess the libs here have forgotten that Hillary and Obama were having vicious cat fights right through June of 2008.

And regardless of the lack of enthusiasm for any one particular Republican candidate, I doubt we’re in for a replay of the 2008 election where a large percentage of conservatives stayed home because McCain was the candidate.

Now that we’ve been treated to 3 1/2 years of the Man Who Would Be King, I would venture to say that Republicans will crawl over broken glass to vote for whoever the Republican candidate is, up to and including a waffle iron if it means dislodging the Marxist from the Oval Office.

      1. He’s got a record to defend this time around, not just lame Hope and Change sloganeering for the ignorascenti and Tiger Beat voting bloc.

        1.  Yes, he does have a record of over 3 million new private sector jobs, over 3 trillion dollars in deficit reduction, saving the American auto industry, ending 2 wars and killing bin Laden. I may have actually underestimated his electoral college total.

          1. I think you are confusing him with Chuck Norris. The American auto industry wasn’t “saved” – they haven’t even paid us back properly. Three million new private sector jobs? What? The green energy companies that all went bankrupt. Enjoy the $5 a gallon gasoline this summer – you voted for it when you put a Leftist radical in power.

          2. I wonder why the “leftist radicals” dislike Obama so much?

I wish you’d explain to me his actions that “prove” he’s a Leftist radical……..I don’t like him at all, never did, didn’t vote for him. but I cannot see him in any way as a “leftist radical.”

What do you mean by that?  I actually want to know, please.

          3. Yeah a record of Socialism and Failure.  From Solyndra,  Siga which both are under federal investigation,  Big Bank Bailouts,  Ethanol Subsidies which Republicans ended . Wall Street Bailouts ask Chellie Pingree’s Billionaire husband how he is doing after taking bailout money.  Car Company Bailouts,  Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac,  Stimulus which was a failure.   8%+  unemployment with more folks not reporting because they gave up with even more underemployed.  $4.00 + a gallon gas and heating oil. 14+ trillion dollars in debt and growing.  50%   of folks not paying taxes and 50 million on Welfare.  It isn’t a record to be proud of but the “joker” calls that change you can believe in.  I think real change will hit on January 20th when Nobama becomes unemployed.

          4. Come away from the Dark Side!

He Supported Auto Manufacturing in this Country and it rebounded !

Mittless the Wittlless advocated it go bankrupt!

    1. The difference is that Obama and Clinton weren’t trying to out liberal each other. They weren’t making lunatic rantings in order to appeal to the fringe. That’s why when Obama got the nomination, he wasn’t unelectable to the moderates. You think these guys talking about infanticide and satan are going to appeal to the independents? Be real.

      1. Of course Obama and Clinton weren’t consistently trying to out liberal each other.  They knew they had to conceal their real agenda from the hoi polloi to be electable.  Some of us were paying attention though.  Having the media run interference for their hero didn’t hurt, of course.

So when Obama voted that an infant that survived a botched abortion could be killed, you wouldn’t call that infanticide?  Pretty screwed up.

Your boy’s losing support steadily among independents, by the way.

        1. All irrelevant. You’re just changing the subject. You said Clinton and Obama were having a vicious fight and I pointed out how it was different compared to this Republican race. Regardless of how long their fight went on, the winner was going to emerge stronger for the general election at the end of it because they weren’t throwing low punches at each other.

And your “paying attention” thing is so laughable. You’re busy paying attention to crazy fringe theories — you’re exactly the kind of person these Republican candidates are trying to appeal to and it’s hurting their already dwindling chances in the general.

        2.  Liberals see nothing wrong with killing a baby that lives through an abortion. Same approach to the elderly or anyone inconvenient not in their voter demographic. Hence the reason they are gutting social security and medicaid to fund Obamacare.

      2. Or intelligent R’s.A dear friend of mine has been a staunch R since she was able to vote in the 1960’s.She’s been VERY active in local politics, been a selectwoman, knocked on thousands of doors and done everything a caring citizen could do.She said she will not vote this year(first time ever) and feels terrible about it but she just can’t.

        1. No worries, a lot of dems that Obama made promises to won’t be voting either.  “Immigration will be my first act in office”.

What are the latinos and hispanics going to run to vote for him again when he didn’t do what he said he was going to do the firs time?  Is he going to make the same promise to fix immigration and expect them all to vote for him again?

          1. He’s been no friend to L&H.Deportations for FY 2011 were the highest ever by a wide margin.FY 2012 looks to beat that record.

    2.  I will vote for Mickey Mouse if it puts Barack Obama out of  a job and his four years of destruction. Barack Obama would probably actually do a better job if he was on bath salts.

    3. Hay, you speak about all the infighting and what do we hear here. nothing gained with more infighting in Maine. We are Americans and need to work together for the best interest of our Country, not for just the haves!

      1. Many of us would like very much to work together with both D.’a and R.’s, but who decides what  we work together on?   We need to concentrate on ISSUES, not personalities.

Many R.’s and D.’s can work together on specific issues if they can forget for the time being their party affiliation and how each party wants to “win.”

Here’s an issue for both anti-choice and pro-choice:   if there were a safe and effective birth control device for women, there wouldn’t have to be many, or even hardly any, abortions.  But available birth control pills and/or devices for women are either not too safe or not that effective.

Such pills or devices would have to be freely available to all women of childbearing age, if people are so concerned about abortions.

Aha, but then women – not men or the churches – would be in control of women’s reproductive capabilities.  Can’t have that, right?

    4. Marxist?

Would a Marxist support a Law that mandates that everyone buy a PRIVATE Health Insurance policy!

Maybe a Fascist but not a Marxist.

  13. I have to agree…The Republican candidates spend more time fighting amoung themselves rather telling the American people their solutions to fix this country……What a joke…We are screwed for another four years no matter who gets elected or re-elected….

    1. Republicans have no solutions to help America. They just spew hate speech about taking birth control away from women and gay marriage. They lie about providing jobs, but once they are in office, it is all about crushing women’s rights and locking them away in the home.

  14. If he can’t get it “his” way (read Heritage Policy Center’s way), he’d rather just blow it up. I hope he gets everything he wants. I’ve never seen a real full blown political party meltdown…

  15. I’d like to think he said this because a brokered convention would be genuinely interesting.  I hope he’s not wishing that someone will prop Sarah Palin on a white horse and send her in to “save the day.”

      1. Why do you hate Canada?Let them run in Mexico along with all the other crooks. That’s already a failed state.

    1.  I doubt if they would have enough food just for Christie:) The Gov. could go get some Canadian beef from his old home?

  16. See “What Governor LePage got right and wrong about the GOP nomination contest” http://pollways.bangordailynews.com/2012/02/26/national/what-gov-lepage-got-right-and-wrong-about-the-gop-nomination-contest/

      1. Nicer to know that out of (I think) 9 republican candidates, not even the penguin (not a very likeable fellow himself) doesn’t like one of em.

  17. Kudos to LePage. He has realized his party is damaged goods,
something many of us have known for a long time. The Party of Lincoln has been
barking up the wrong tree now for 30+ years. By embracing extreme policies the
people they are supposed to serve have been made the enemy.

The current crop of extremists we see on TV has revealed their
crazy agenda to us in living color supporting our governor’s discovery – that the
GOP is indeed, damaged goods. The only problem is the LePage agenda is no less
    extreme.

I for one must admit that I have greatly enjoyed the circus-like
atmosphere the GOP provides and hope for it to continue with all of its insane
    goings-on.

It takes one’s breath away how they artfully use issues like
religion, contraceptives, taxes and other wedge issues to divide Americans.

Don’t hold your breath in hopes that the GOP will anytime
soon correct their collision course with disaster. LePage wants to see an
old-fashioned floor fight (smoke-filled rooms included). I too would love to see
a GOP battle royal, with a twist. They should beat each other with Nerf bats
and the last standing is the winner. I think that’s fair and balanced based on
the angst they have foisted on this country.

  18. I always figured the penguin for a mud wrestling aficionado. The winner will look like he be dipped in s–t.

  19. You’ve been on and off for a couple hours now . . . making money for those pesky reporters who laugh at your darling . . .

  20. He is 100% correct. I feel that we have lost teh race already with the in house accusations and idiocy form the present candidates. Ther were a couple good possibilities but teh venom from party insiders soon got rid of them. Now we are left with the bottom of teh barrel, going against a sitting president whose agenda seems to be to erase all that has been built up for over 200 years of Democracy.

  21. For once i agree with him as it is now what are they doing nothing but running each other down . So what is this teaching our kids its ok to run people down an lie. If every people that got on office did even half of what they say they are going to do than that would be a great acheavement . No they don’t even tell the same story at every stop they make.  Than there’s the person that picks on family members like uncles ect. what dose that half to do with the person running for office  ?  What control do they have over family members no more than you do .

    1.  People would rather not accept the truth if it shows that their prior beliefs are wrong.  It is hard to admit mistakes, especially if the admission makes the prior beliefs  look ignorant.

      1. You are so right. We can never forget the Republican VOTER FRAUD in Florida that stole the Presidency from Al Gore.

    1. I’m one of the more the 3/5 of Mainers who voted against him.YOU can move-you are in the shrinking minority and we won’t miss you.

      1. But the 81% of Maine folks voted against the Democrat choice for Gov. in Libby Mitchell.  With most of that 81% also voted the Out of Touch Democrats from power in the Legislature after 36 years.   They are tired of the massive job losses,  massive spending growth, high taxes, huge borrowing every year,  amount of folks on welfare growing, failing and crumbling schools, awful infrastructure.  We want change and the Democrats in Maine refuse to see that.

        1. Are you going to pretend that Cutler was a conservative or even a moderate? Give it a break. Mainers in large did not want a conservative as their governor. Notice who we send to Washington? They’re not the fringe freaks that LePage is.

          1. I would buy that argument IF individual Maine communities had not backed up their LePage vote with a change in the legislature from the “D” to the “R” column.

The last election was a BIG win for Republicans.  Spin all you like, but the facts are front and center for all to see.

      2. That is a weak argument.  LePage won by greater numbers than either Baldacci or King in their first terms.

  22. I would have to agree with the governor as I have not seen anyone running that capable to win the Presidencey. All the GOP runners are just fighting amongst each other and not working for the good of the people. As it stands right now I don’t want any of the runners. Lets suprise us and throw a new name in the mix. A person to work for the people and not themselves.

  23. Since the governor takes so much of his agenda from ALEC I’m assuming this also is coming from them.  Wonder who ALEC has in mind to replace Romney?

    1. I believe in terms of ALEC they were convinced the candidate was irrelevant. Their model calls for someone who is astute enough sign their name on bills and other documents handed to them by ALEC. Just like they do here in Maine.

    2. They would like Jeb Bush….He says he will (under no circumstances) run.  They would accept Mitch Danials.  That probably won’t happen either.

Obama would lose 49 States if the GOP had a candidate like Eisenhower, Reagan, or Teddy Roosevelt… They picked Mitt the sh!t.  Defeat from the jaws of victory….that has become their style.

  24. The outspoken Republican governor, who was the tea party favorite when he was elected in 2010, told Maine Today Media in Sunday’s editions that his party needs a “fresh face” to challenge President Barack Obama in the fall. RUN PAUL RUN. PLEASE!

  25. If we look at certain people in Maine State Government (DECD and a certain GOP party Chair with ties to the intelligence community going back to the Enron fiasco), then move ahead to current events, I want you all to think of Kennebunkport and a certain former Florida Governor who has paid Obama a visit within the first week of his presidency and also very recently.

The dark horse mentioned on ABC news tonight regarding the governors comments at the Governors Convention will be  Jeb Bush.

The relationship with certain Eurozone leaders and current issues makes that VERY CLEAR.

    Stay Tuned.

  26. Just the thought of this should be intolerable.  What is being suggested is that the millions of people that will have voted before the convention should have those votes ignored.  That a small group of people in a convention hall will decide our republican choice is contrary to the party’s recent attempts to protect our votes.

These are the candidates that are running for President.  These are the candidates that voters are casting ballots for to choose the nominee.  A paternalistic, back room deal that disenfranchises voters should not be discussed or accepted.  Of course, if the Republican Party has become a group of automatons that will do as they are told, then we have more to fear than “socialism”.

  27. You have to love how politicians like LePage use terms like “fight”, or campaign “war chest”, or “battle lines”, when everyone knows the cowards would run screaming like little girls at the first sign of trouble. And then demand that brave young men go fight in their stead.

  28. Paul lets work on the price of gas in maine and the taxes we pay per gallon to help out the poorest state in the country. We know maine care is a mess you have told us about 200,000 times since you took over office. What about doing some house cleaning of some departments at the white house in Augusta. Lets focus on this for awhile. Sick of hearing about maine care. We know its a mess and it sad mess. What about Oak Grove Coburn what is the cost to heat that old brick building. Build back in the 1900’s it must be real easy to heat. What about the Warden service 32 to 38 office jobs down there in Augusta. Maybe you could do some cutting there. Maybe start in Lewiston with green card people send them home. Know that would help oor state.

  29. Anyone, R or D, who thinks Rick Santorum or Newt Gingrich would be better than Obama seriously needs their heads examined.

There’s a whole list of Republicans speaking out against the ridiuclousness and lack of policy on the part of the GOP nominees (Judd Gregg, George Will, David Frum, Karl Rove, even Rush Limbaugh.)

Meanwhile the evangelical purists have scared off any serious contenders except Mitt Romney who, if nominated, will pivot so far to the middle to win the general it will make the purists heads spin even more than they already are.

    1. We should consider it a new form reality TV, something akin to “The Housewives of South Boston.” Pop some popcorn in the microwave, put your feet up and try not to laugh till it hurts. The Republicans have wrapped themselves around the axle so tight this time they’ve cold welded themselves to it. Your analysis is spot on.

    2. Judd Gregg is a Romney supporter. Anything he says should be viewed through that lens. George Will will say ANYTHING to get you to notice him.  Carl Rove was Perry’s campaign fundraiser, and Rush Limbaugh thinks the whole field is too liberal.

Unfortunately We’re probably stuck with the lackluster, President we have.  A President who during his campaign promised “Hope and Change” and gave us nothing but a continuation of George Bush policy.  Almost 2,000 US service people dead in Afghanistan for what?  Their freedom?  Our original purpose for attacking that country was to kill or capture the guy who funded 9-11.  He’s dead, so why are we still spending money and good people in that third world septic tank?

Obama also thought it was a good idea to help out Libyan and Yemenese revolutionaries.  What did that get us… higher oil prices  which incidentally help him sell his radical green theology?

The insidious part of all this is that under cover from the Republicans who paint him as a dolt, he has removed more of our constitutional protections than did G.W. Bush during his whole two terms.

We’re being sold out by both parties, and while this happens the population of voters treat the election process like a sporting event.

Ayt the end of this game both teams will lose.

I’m glad I’m old.  I had the best this country had to offer…. I just wish there was somethingleft to pass on to the children… Other than a mountain of debt.

  30. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Santorum says he doesn’t believe in the separation of church and state . . .

  31. Do you really think the winner of a dog fight or bar room brawl might unseat Obama.  I don’t see it.

  32. LePage:

” the country deserves better than to have people stand up and keep criticizing each other”

    Who’s he trying to fool?

This from the guy who told the President of the United States to “kiss my butt”.

This from a guy who has been abrasive, polarizing, and intolerantly critical from day one.

And does he think a “floor fight” at the convention would be a Republican love-in?
    No criticizing allowed there, huh?

That’s why they call it a floor FIGHT, governor.

    What a dope.

  33. Paulie is right-but the Rep. Party is not going back to chooing a new face now. The money spentby the superpacs on cutting to the bone ads will be wasted.

  34. It’s not a spin, it’s reality. I agree that Republicans won many small scale seats, but in terms of big seats, no. LePage was the only Conservative of the 3 and he got 39% that isn’t some huge tidal wave of a movement. His win was a fluke and there is no way he can get a split vote like that again. Further, did you not notice who we sent to Washington? Hint: it wasn’t Scontras or Levesque.

  36. As with Mitt, Rick, and Newt – and just like Paul – it’s not what they said, it’s what their press secretaries “thought” they should have said – or, what they  “meant” – to have said.
Paul is apparently just as flummoxed as the rest of the party  survivors left struggling amid the scattered remains of this republican tea party  debacle.   The  “thought”  was there at the start of the debates to select a presidential candidate.  Well,  that’s what they  “meant”  to do.

Instead, the party that takes credit for mean spiritedly dividing the nation, has  now cracked apart within  its own foundations.

  37. Who cares what this over-stuffed tyrant wants ? Does he really think he’ll be around to profit from it ? Got bad news for ya fatboy….There are a few fanatic right wingers who favor you but the MAJORITY of the State just wants you gone ! Paul LePage was a mistake and even most Republicans you ask will agree….

  38. Floor fight, food fight, street fight – they’re all the same to him. He likes to fight; it beats rational discussion and debate every time. He knows his fans do too – so much the better!

  39. Floor fight sound just like what the Republicans need. The candidates now are – Paul, an anti-minority, economic cult leader, Santrorum, an sexual deviant who proposes celibacy for the country, Newt, a megamaniac book seller, and Romney, a man of no principles other than greed. Where is the man of leadership. I won’t ask where is the women this is the Republican Party after all. This is the last opportunity for the Republican Party (the fanatic christian right) to reverse 80 years of successful economic and moral growth. They have tried everything to sabotuge President Obama and the nation’s economy. Soon demographics will make them as irrelevent as the buggywhip. Bush, Christie, and others are waiting for 2016. Might have to wait until 2032. Bye, Bye, Republicans. Please put one more radical, irresponsible show in prime time.

  40. I think  Doctor Ron Paul is the best candidate for our country.  He is a dark horse for sure.  People have a bias against senior citizens, which appauls me as being one.  This man will definitely help our country. the others will not.

  41. I don’t think it’s the fact that the candidates have beat each up so badly, the ads are all true. The fact is many folks have come to see what they stand for and represent.

Romney = corporations, Ginrich = Washington insiders, Santorum = American Taliban, Paul = bad fitting suits.
