BANGOR, Maine — Comedian Bob Marley will perform at an event from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29, at the Bangor Civic Center to benefit Channel 7 News anchorwoman Cindy Michaels’ brother John Sovis of Charleston, who recently was diagnosed with cancer. The event also will feature music from Chris Ross and a silent auction.

Michaels said her brother received a cancer diagnosis about a month ago. He will travel to Houston for alternative treatment, which is not covered by insurance — hence the need for fundraising.

“I can’t fix him, but I can help ease the financial impact,” Michaels said.

The fundraising goal is $50,000.

Auction items include an autographed book by Stephen King, an overnight stay and dinner for two at Hollywood Casino Bangor, a University of Maine Black Bears signed football helmet, basketball jersey and goalie stick, gift cards for meals at area restaurants, and a pair of tickets and VIP parking passes to any of the Waterfront Concerts.

Tickets are $25 and available at http://www.Ticketmaster.com and at the Bangor Civic Center box office, 947-5555. Tickets also are available at the door. To donate an item or service to the auction, email Michaels at cmichaels@wvii.com.
