SKOWHEGAN, Maine — A local man has been arrested in connection with a stabbing early Wednesday that left a man in “very serious” condition, police said.
Police were called to 33 Indian Ridge Apartment Complex at 2:53 a.m. Wednesday for a report of a fight among a woman and three men.
“When we were notified, everyone had gone back into an apartment except for one male who was lying in the snow bleeding,” said Skowhegan Police Chief Michael Emmons.
Jason Tibbetts, 34, of Skowhegan suffered multiple stab wounds and was taken by ambulance to Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan. He then was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.
Nathaniel Knight, 31, of Skowhegan was arrested and charged with elevated aggravated assault, a Class A crime, Emmons said.
Knight also was charged with trafficking in prison contraband.
“When he was transported to Somerset County Jail [in Madison], he had concealed some narcotics,” said Emmons.
Skowhegan detectives are working with the Maine State Police Criminal Investigation Division, which is routine practice in the event that a stabbing may become a homicide, said Emmons.
“The doctor over at Redington-Fairview said it was very serious, but he felt [Tibbetts] would make it and he would survive,” said Emmons.
Witnesses are being interviewed and police are in the process of obtaining a search warrant for the apartment, Emmons said Wednesday afternoon.
A spokeswoman at EMMC declined Wednesday afternoon to release information on Tibbetts’ condition.

How can you swipe an EBT for alcohol and drugs. I’ve not seen drugs on the shelf at Hannaford or Walmart and you can’t buy alcohol with EBT. Not sure what you’re accusing EVERYONE of doing?
O wow, are you naive. There is a particular ATM in Lewiston that has been in the Southern Maine news lately. A line of people start lining up at an ATM just before 12midnight on the eve of the 1st of the month, when EBT cards get refilled with money. When midnight comes, the people start withdrawing their [taxpayer] EBT cash, and head into the barrooms. Some go to the local POT dealers and ….
