BANGOR, Maine — Executives at a Bangor gambling facility held a press conference Thursday, March 1, 2012 to announce the name change from “Hollywood Slots Hotel & Raceway” to “Hollywood Casino Hotel & Raceway.”
“The past four months have been very exciting since voters in Penobscot County gave their approval for table games at Hollywood Casino Hotel & Raceway,” said John Osborne, general manager of Hollywood Casino. “With addition of games like poker, roulette and blackjack complementing our existing offerings of slots, harness racing and live entertainment, visitors to Hollywood Casino have a complete entertainment package to enjoy right here in Bangor.”
The table games are scheduled to begin operation at the facility on March 16.

When are table games going to open???
The official opening date is March 16, according to the general manager.

Thank you
“The table games are scheduled to begin operation at the facility on March 16.” Last sentence.
Thank you
They are going to open March 16th . Hollywood Casino is already running commercials on Maine tv stations promoting the opening of the table games that day.
Thank you
Still a dump to me.
Wait a little while, see how much you love REAL gambling. and the scum it attracts
I know quite a few people that travel to Foxwoods for table games….are they the scum you’re talking about? Way to generalize and judge. Oh, they have good jobs and are responsible people who, by the way, don’t refer to people who do things they don’t personally enjoy as “scum”.
He calls little old ladies scum bags now that a bright person
I certainly hope your not comparing Foxwoods to the dirty little dive in the dirty little town known as Bangor.
Foxwoods is a resort, lowlifes aren’t skulking around every corner. H. Slots is located half mile from the dirtiest crime ridden part of Bangor.
I typed a response to you. Then I read more of the posts here and realized that your just throwing darts to get a response. So I erased it.
Perceptive
I LOVE Blackjack. My point is Bangor is a scummy little town and the scummy little people down the street will be watching.. I’ve seen it before, i’ll see it again.
I don’t have a problem with casinos I just feel they should be away from the city or town. Look at the crime rate in Vegas
Frankly, H. Slots is just another dumpy stop in a dumpy town.
Another PALE attempt by Bangor to become relevant. They’re not.
You need to get outside more. We are actually one of the nicest cities in the nation. Forbes, USA Today, American Mag, etc all put Bangor in the top as far as quality of life, vibrant economy, culture, living. Recently Bangor picked to be the finish line for FireBall Run 2012. Why? They look at quality of economies, way of life. Bangor has been picked by many for it’s quality. We are also between Maine’s only National Park (Acadia, a premiere destination for millions) and a famous State Park. We host many events at a prolific pace, bringing tens of thousands of people from as far as California, Alaska, even England. American Folk Festival, KahBang, West Market Fest, and picked to host the premiere Waterfront Concerts. Picked to host Penn National, picked to host Global Spectrum, picked to host the Senior League World Series, the state’s largest fair, the states largest single library, largest retail center north of Boston, and we have only yet begun. So yeah, we are something. Deal with it. That is why we are picked so much. So what’s happening in your neck of the woods? You can’t be from Bangor, because only positive people are moving in. If you are, maybe it’s time to leave. What palace do you live in btw?
Didn’t crime go down around the Connecticut casinos?
http://articles.boston.com/2012-02-26/news/31102091-1-casinos-prostitution-arrests-organized-crime , http://www.bostonherald.com/business/general/view/201020226crime-fell-around-connecticut-casinos/srvc=business&position=also . Dennis Bailey always talks about Connecticut , and how bad it is in that state with Casinos this says otherwise.
Honestly, I can’t speak to that.
I have lived around other casinos that stand alone (resort) They’ve separated themselves. More a touch of class, (tacky as casino’s can be.)
Those within the city limits of a dirty crime ridden town(see Bangor) don’t always fair as well.
Oh no, a CasinosNo! leftover. Dump? Compared to? The people a entertainment district attracts are not scum. They are tourists, people visiting-spending money, people of all walks of life enjoy entertainment. That’s why people travel to Vegas, Atlantic City, New York City, to enjoy the entertainment. We have a little of a lot here in Bangor. Quit the bitchn
Bangor has NOTHING.
The arts are a joke in Bangor. The stores are pathetic.
Everything in that dirty little town is SECOND RATE, and always will be.
Sorry Bangor, you will never be Portland.
Good! If we turn into Portland I am gone. Just because you can’t find happiness in Bangor doesn’t mean many don’t. I have lived all over the globe and Bangor Maine is perfect for me. Does it help being really wealthy, of course, but either way, this is a great little city. You don’t like it, see ya. Here’s a secret, leave and nobody will care.
Yup, you really need to get outside more…
Give it up!
Tourist,
what a Joke!
These dirt bags have plans for gambling in EVERY State!
When do we get the hookers and the heroin?
Is That going to be on a Referendum?
Or do we have to wait for Ron Paul to be President?
I would gladly vote for legalizing prostitution…… As it stands, only outlaws have prostitutes……
Should have changed the Hollywood part too. Really dumb for Maine.
It is a popular brand for Penn National and a very successful brand at that. It’s better than what Oxford (Silverton) is using they are just going with Oxford Casino with an ugly logo too. Hopefully the Maine Legislature is smart and does a Casino and Gambling Expansion plan that not only ends the monopolies that Bangor and Oxford has . But allowing more competition with real and much larger Casinos. Also allowing Scarborough Downs and the Indian Tribes to have theirs. While also allowing other forms of Gambling as well . Giving major competition to the Lottery and the National games Powerball, Mega Millions, Hot Lotto, Lucky for Life that the Maine Lottery is involved in.
Penn National owns and operates the family of Hollywood Casinos around the nation. What is dumb is not knowing that. Yes, Bangor is the Vegas of Maine. So, yes we host Hollywood Casino. We are also the Hollywood of Maine. So what’s happening in your neck of the woods?
Thank Goooooooodness!!
Thank you, Hollywood Casinoooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!
It is always good to see a business GROW and help the area. I actually enjoy going there once in a while. In response to a comment below there is NO WAY it will ever attract crime etc. , for they have an excellent security team and the place is spotless… they do pay attention to detail. I am excited for the improvements to that part of town with the new auditorium coming up nicely and a couple new places to eat. Hollywood Casino is a very fitting name and congratulations.
Congrats Penn National. You have been a great asset to our city as well as the region. A lot of Bangor’s success was started with you. Your success is our success. Only the best of success!! Hooray for Hollywood!!
A “FOOL” and their money are soon parted
A fool and her statements are soon forgotten…
The disposable income should flow out of central Maine much faster now. Most people go there to be a “star”. Even more end up in a supporting role! lol. Anyone else wonder why they always turn up a 21 hand on the commercials. They need a lot more 12 hands to achieve truth in advertising. Not that they would ever worry about such trivial matters. A fool and their money are soon parted.
Good name change, exciting too. The haters can say what they want but here is the deal.
Penn National has completely managed their operation right. Many have rooted for them to fail from the start but they have persevered in the face of adversity since they set up shop. In 5 short years they have built a 131 million facility on the waterfront, been the sole funding arm for a new 70 million dollar arena that is going to put Bangor on the entertainment map, created hundreds of jobs, given millions of dollars of work to local contractors and have been great stewards of our city. The give thousands on a corporate level to many non profit organizations. They have done all this in spite of the worst economic recession since the great depression!
Quite frankly, it would be hard for any organization to run this facility better then PENN National or Hollywood Casino. Bring on the next chapter and thank you for bringing your fine establishment and jobs to our fine city.
John Osborne is a great person to carry the batton John Johnson passed him in leading this large scale successfull operation.
This Bangorian appreciates all that you have done and I look forward to watching more changes in the future. This has been a huge win for Bangor and the right operators have been the biggest reason.
On a personal note, now that they have cards I will be going. Never played slots much given the fact they tell me the house always wins. Now if I can go down and slap my neighbor around playing poker, I’M ALL IN BABY!!!
Well said. They have done a good job for the City of Bangor and for the State of Maine.
I wish no ill to a business that has only proven it can help the city prosper. But, in order to build the “Racino” they had to be within 2,000 feet of a working harness racing track. Hence the name “Hollywood Slots Hotel and Raceway”. Seems like someone forgot the hard working people and horses that helped Bangor to once be a part of the Grand Circuit — and the history of the venue and the sport starting with Maplewood Trotting Park in 1883.
