AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine’s former House Speaker, the executive director of the ACLU of Maine and a lawmaker from Portland are the latest to enter the race for Maine’s 1st District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Former state House Speaker Hannah Pingree, 35, of North Haven, confirmed Sunday that she spent the weekend gathering signatures for her petition.
Pingree, a Democrat, said she began gathering signatures in case her mother, U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree runs for the U.S. Senate seat held by Republican Olympia Snowe. Chellie Pingree is collecting signatures for that race.
Snowe recently announced she would not seek re-election due to the political climate in Washington.
Hannah Pingree’s state house term was limited in 2010. She is now running an inn, working as a consultant for the national coalition Safer Chemicals Healthy Families, and is raising her young daughter.
Shenna Bellows, 36, a Democrat from Manchester, this weekend also began collecting signatures for the 1st District race. Bellows took an unpaid leave from her post at the ACLU of Maine on Saturday, when she began gathering signatures.
“I’m a Mainer. I grew up in Hancock. I spent my entire career working on issues of civil rights and justice. I know I’m one of many candidates who are collecting signatures in the first congressional district,” she said Sunday. “I really don’t know yet. I’m collecting signatures to see if it’s feasible to move forward.”
Also gathering signatures for Maine’s 1st District House seat over the weekend was state Rep. Diane Russell, D-Portland.
“I’m considering running for congressional district one — if Chellie runs for senate and her daughter Hannah [Pingree] decides not to run for it,” Russell said Sunday.
The three join an already crowded field in the 1st District race.
Six Democrats had previously secured petitions: Barry Hobbins, the state Senate minority leader; Sen. Phil Bartlett of Gorham; Rep. Jon Hinck of Portland; David Lemoine, former state treasurer; Wellington Lyons; and David Costa. Hinck had been a Senate candidate, but switched Friday to the House.
On the Republican side, Patrick Calder was the first to declare he is running. However, since Snowe’s decision and since Chellie Pingree has expressed strong interest in the Senate seat, three Republicans have begun the signature-gathering process: Jonathan Courtney, the Senate majority leader; Markham Gartley; and John Vedral.
House candidates enrolled in a political party have until March 15 to collect at least 1,000 signatures for submission to Maine’s secretary of state to be eligible to run.

Pound sand. I’d rather pick a warthogs nose than sign onto anything to do with that fools campaign.
Sad state of affairs when this crew is all we have to choose from. Perennial political hacks, for the most part.
They just move up the ladder for the most part, taking over a position vacated by a bigger hack, making way for the lower hacks to come on board.
amazing how the sour cream rises to the top.
Pass out the stakes, eh? for these moonbats…….
Hacks are hacks. Doesnt matter what side of the aisle they come from.
Agree with you Gary. Please get down on your knees with me
and pray to the big hackorama in the sky to help us create a model
of self governing as close to the original town house meetings as possible.
This hack Bellows is a poster child for all the Liberals in Maine.
Instead of using her legal skills to help democratize the Maine legal system by
getting legislation passed that would require the teaching of law in grades 1-12
so high school seniors could pass the Maine Bar Exam and be able to navigate the legal arena this wannabe moonbat rises out of the woodwork of the Maine ACLU.
Please somebody . anybody start handing out the stakes.
How many people know the ACLU was infiltrated and controlled by the FBI in the 1950’s?
Watch for her bojangles political rant when she starts talking about how she ended the use of torture at the Maine State prison. Folks it was Lance Tapley’s investigative reporting over at the Portland Phoenix that nailed Commissioner Magnusson.
Don’t even think about getting me started about the original actress to play in the movie Bad Seed.
You all know the perp as beyond the point of no return with Global Warming Hannah Pingree.
Folks, I know I got a few supporters out there, eh? Contact Maine artist Robert Shetterly and ask
him to run for Olympia Snow’s seat.
Can you imagine it, for the first time in US history an artist in the United States Senate.
Visit his website http://www.americanswhotellthetruth.org
Just went to his website, found it interesting. He has quite of variety of Americans who tell the truth. I agree with most that were chosen, however I do have to ask about Bill Ayers being on the list. Did he ever tell the truth in regard to the explosion in Greenwich Village? I lived in NY at the time and had family members involved with the SDS, they have a different story regarding Bill Ayers, even Jesse Lemisch (himself a former member of SDS) contrasted Ayers’ recollections with those of other former members of Weatherman and has alleged serious factual errors. I believe Bill Ayers has rewritten history to make himself look good.
Oh please..please ..please let the ACLU lawyer run and get the nomination. She is eminently beatable by almost any Republican.
She’s not a lawyer.
Gary, I sure hope you are right on this, but their are so many voters in Maine that don’t have a clue what they are doing in the voting booth that anything could happen.
Sad but accurate !
I don’t think Bellows is a lawyer.
Let her , Princess Hannah run and State Rep. Diane Russell run they will all lose to a Republican. If Russell wins the seat will she take time off to run away to Wisconsin and protest like she did for a week with those Union folks. Will Diane still collect that check like she did in the legislature for her Liberal Activist views during that week. None of these folks are qualified to be dog catcher. The only bright one of the trio is Shenna Bellows. Though I think Shenna will be smart and drop out. Because she doesn’t have the money and resources to combat the Donnie Sussman spending spree that Princess Hannah and her mom Chellie has to their advantage.
Can I assume you dislike the fact Kevin Raye, Republican, is on the payroll for a DC lobbying organization while serving as a State Legislator? I agree, I believe, with you none of these individuals should not be receiving payment for involvement in public policy advocacy while holding office.
Hannah…got some of that Sussman cash do you?
Liberals..its ok to run with your daddy’s money and no one from the Portland Press Herald (aka Sussman newscorp) will ever mention it.
Oh what ultrahypocritcal right wing hogwash tripe. I tell you, the GOP right wing drowns itself in endless hyprocrisy. This this is such pathic sewer-water spouting about Sussman’s money, and from the party that gave us the sickening ultra-corporate Citizens United buy-off-elections-with-unlimited-corporate-money decision, the party that proudly believes corporations are “people,” the party that is owned lock and stock and barrel by corporate America, the party that hates the poor and adores the rich, the party whose leading presidential contender is an ultramillionaire who beats his primary opponents with carpet-bomb negative ads and little else while he hides his millions in the Caymans, the party that wants to destroy Medicare and Social Security while eliminating taxes on billionaires, the party that invented and is owned by the K-Street lobbyists, the party that has love affairs with companies that get no-bid military contracts, the party that is a wholely-owned subsidiary of the corrupt insurance industry and drug companies, the party that has never seen a corporate loophole it didn’t worship, and the party that loves the guys who take pictures of themselves with hundred dollar bills stuck in their mouths and ears. So enough of the hyprocritical hogwash baby-whining about Sussman. Whichever Democrat is nominated will win the First CD, Michaud will be re-elected, and the GOP-TeaNut Party will lose the state legislature and return to being an irrelevant joke just like that buffoon in the Blaine House and that weirdo loudmouth vile druggie Rush Limpmind whom you GOPers worship like God Almighty himself.
Hannah Pingree is an idealistic, ambitious, ethical, bright young woman . . . and that alone makes a fair number of people feel threatened by her.
Maybe you would rather have someone from the “old boy” network who is in the pocket of corporate lobbyists, for whom politics is about personal gain, and who cares nothing about the working people of Maine.
She is part of the good old boy network!
she is absolutely not ethical or bright
Evidence, please…
You got 50% right, idealistic and ambitious. That is better than most liberals do.
Well, at least Russell is honest about waiting to hear the “marching orders” from the Pingree clan.
Naran we have some good choices that aren’t Liberal or Liberals posing as Independents with Rick Bennett, Bill Schneider, Deb Plowman, Bruce Poliquin , Charlie Summers. Hopefully Rick Bennett wins.
No they are not good choices…they are all from the same mold…part of the political machine. You elect any one of them and you get ……More of the same! They promise…you elect….they lie!
We are DOOMED!
We are beyond DOOMED!
Who becomes the candidate for a party in these types of things depends on many factors, including who is deemed to be top dog in the party overall. In my opinion that top dog is Baldacci. He has been a House Representative and Governor. The run for senate seat is his if he wants it. I predict he will want it and Chellie Pingree will stay put.
Michaud had seniority over Chellie Pingree for the open Senate Seat and you saw him stay put, that again in my mind points to Baldacci running for Senate.
Why is it that folks always pick the top dog before the race even gets underway. Aren’t people in Maine and America finally fed up with the same politicians running for office, getting elected and we get the same results…NOTHING. It’s time to pick a new name a new face and end the status quo.
It just goes that way sometimes. You would think people would get tired of the same old thing and yet incumbents reign and former office holders have an easier time getting elected then those who are political unknowns. I agree with you it is not a good thing at times.
well when you get those new shoes broken in and the are comfortable you do not want to throw them away. The time is coming for a change in this country, I just think it will be for the worst not the better.
God didnt Hannah Pingree do enough damage while in Augusta.
Could some of these libtards please get a real job in the DPS(Dreaded Private Sector) so as to get some perspective as to how their liberal policies fail, wreck the workplace. Before you pass a law maybe you ought to have a real job instead of being a Lear Jet Liberal like mom. Tired of the 1% liberals running everything into the ground.
“Libtards”? Are you serious?
lol…why not…I’ve been seeing “Repubtards” used for several months.
Oh, in that case, it’s fine. As long as other people are doing it.
Could some of the teatards do something besides leech off society? I say let the corporate facists go for awhile like the teatards want, let the true colors come out, and the sorely uninformed masses might get the real picture. There’s a balance to be struck, and I’m tired of the 1% corporate facists running everything into the ground.
I think it now is considered a socialist state by the other 49.
It’s hard for born and raised Mainer like myself to live down the ridicule from my friends in other states.
Especially since we got Governor LePage to make a national laughing stock of Maine.
Actually Gov LePage is admired by people in other states. People wonder how did Maine get so many cooky liberals? Thank God for the hard working true Mainers who put Gov LePage in office.
I can’t wait to see the love fest between Shenna and Hanna.
LOL
This is true. When he made national news I had friends from elsewhere call me and said they wished they had a governor like that. Not to even mention the emails. We should be proud that our governor is trying to clean up the mess and the debt. We all should be supporting him instead of making fun of him. He is doing all of this for all of us taxpayers~
Your proof is that you have friends who think exactly like you and Rick Sanatorium do? Stop the presses! Hot inside story of the year! I’m convinced….
Oh please!!! Rick Santorum!!! I do not think so!!!
That funny!!! All the people I know in other states (and there are many) think he’s joke!!!
Have you ever actually met the governor? I am proud to call him my governor. My family and friends from other states are envious that we have such a governor; who is not a polished politician, who is not afraid to say how he feels and who truly cares about our state.
Being proud of a politician who is not “polished” would be like saying you’re proud of a player on your favorite baseball team who is bad because he lacks training.
“Politician” is not a dirty word. Every single one of us is a politician in one form or another.
I prefer that politicians know how government works and know how to understand the concerns and needs of their constituents. I don’t prefer politicians who don’t care what others think and don’t want to tray to reach compromises.
If what you say is true, that you prefer politicians who know how government works, then how do you feel about our president? He does not even understand the Constitution. Governor LePage understands government, you do not need to be a polished politician to understand the Constitution.
I have and he is not a strong Governor. He can not make a decision unless he has a consensus of his patsies on board. He dances to the party drum and follows the heritage foundation policies. He is afraid to stand up to Federal government mandates, which is the very reason why our political system in Maine is so goofed up. The Federal government dictates education, transportation, environmental issues, law enforcement and more because Federal funds come with “strings attached”. He specifically told me that he would not follow through on his promises because the state would lose federal funding. This is Maine, we are an Independent state with tenth amendment rights. At least Governor Perry of Texas has the Kahunis to stand up for the tenth amendment. Unless we elect a Governor with some intellect and the guts to keep their word, be it Democrat, Independent or Republican we will stay a nanny state. If Le Page truly cared about our state he would engage all of the people work with everyone, deliver compromise and get this state moving in the right direction because the only way it will get done is with a team effort not
the ideology of some special interest institute.
they almost all dance to the party drum. No news there, dems and reps alike.
The Governor has definitely exhibited that he has the courage to stand up for our state. Have you not read all of the headlines? Does this state receive money with strings attached? Absolutely. The problem is, far too many people in this state think that having nearly 1/2 the people on welfare is good for the state because it brings in more federal funding. I have always thought this was a warped way of thinking. The schools can hardly wait to get their hands on those funds as well.
would a “strong governor,” be one who can speak without notes? LePage can do this. If you think the State Government is goofed up, what about the Federal Government?
Who seems to make statements and doesn’t back them up. Like there is over 20,000 jobs that are going unfilled in Maine due to lack of skilled labor. Never a list of which skills, where they are, what they pay.
Like I took that mural down because it offended an anonymous letter writer or was it, the main reason was that the money it cost came out of Maine coffers. Liars ususally have a hard time keeping their story straight.
And the beat goes on.
Just like he turned over the anonymous letter about the pedophile phony Reverand Carlson? Finally, the truth about Bob Carlson was revealed. If the letter had not gone to the Governor, I am not sure anything would have happened. Yes, I am glad he listens to the people! You always have to go back to the mural. Did you know that President Obama sent back a work of art to England? It was a bust of Winston Churchill. It was a gift from England.
I do believe the lack of skilled labor comment. Have you hired any skilled laborers lately? They are very difficult to find.
I would be tickled to death if there was 20,000 job opportunities for skilled laborers in Maine. He is the one who made this statement but I have yet to hear or see where they are, exactly what skills are needed or what they pay. Have you?
So which story about the mural is the truth? Is there another version? I highly doubt that 99% of the citizens of the State of Maine even realized the murals were there in the first place. Governor LePages actions brought them to the attention of the entire State and a goodly portion of the nation. I’m quite sure that the opposition will never let him forget the murals.
Yes, and I was ashamed that he represents the state of Maine to the country. He is nothing but a bag of wind and a blowhard trying to make people think he knows something when he is absolutely clueless.
I seriously doubt you have had the opportunity to meet the Governor.
Well then, if we had a bet, you’d have lost!!!
He can speak without any notes, or a teleprompter! Isn’t that amazing!
You are so wrong there. All his speeches are scripted and he reads them and not that well especially when he loses his place. His handlers no longer trust him to go unscripted. He always opens mouth and blurts out something he knows nothing about or some kind of fabricated numbers.
And it is a bigger insult to my ancestors who settled here in 1763 and others who worked so hard to build this great state and to every generation since. Maybe the next Governor will put a sign in Kittery that says “do not enter…human activity prohibited, pursue happiness elsewhere”
I woulda thought that sign is there now after seeing what Roxanne Quimby wants to do here.
No actually Le Page wants to put the Labor mural there now!
Can’t!
The mural is gone.
The Dems found it and sold it to this outfit when they said they would “immortalize” it;
http://tinyurl.com/it30
I would love to see a lobbyist for the ACLU get the nomination. Nothing like cleaning out the special interests huh? Way to go Maine Democrats…
LOL, special interest?!
Bellows is not a lobbyist.
The joke is the buffoon in the Blaine House, and you can just keep on spouting the empty hot air. The TeaNuts will be crushed at the voting booth this November. A Dem will win CD-1, Michaud will beat Raye-the-water-boy-for-LeBuffoon, and the TeaNuts will lose the legislature in a big way.
And deservedly so. They and LeBuffoon are nothing but Maine Heritage Policy Center Grover Norquist radical right wing corporatist tools, and Mainers aren’t having any more of it. See you in November.
I think you are wrong on the TeaNuts. They got Le Rage elected. Le Rage threw the TeaNuts overboard. The Legislators they backed threw them overboard. The story here goes, if someone is, or has been a politician, they know the system. They will do or say anything to get elected. Once elected they follow the party line. They seldom if ever keep their promises. The real reason the Republicans will not get elected again is they did nothing. Unless we get some independents elected, we will be “see-sawing” back and forth between Republicans and Democrats who have different platforms but produce the same results…Nothing.
The problem is not that republicans have done nothing. The problem is that progressives, both democrat and republican, have done too much.
I love the fact that you used 8 hateful and completely baseless names for hard working public officials, but the first time someone were to use anything similar toward a Dem you would be asking for law suits and jail time. I bet you are all over Rush for his comments but you are okay saying what you did. Kinda typical.
Oh, great, just what we need, another trust funder do gooder…..
Bet you loved Rick Santorum’s take on another trust fund do gooder. You know, that do-nothing guy from Cape Cod – – John F. Kennedy.
What does Rick Santorum have to do with this trust fund do gooder.. Just like ALL LIBERALS change the subject.
Huh ? Try reading reading a newspaper. Oh .. yes .. I forgot. Conservatives believe all media just report liberal lies.
The media just never reports the whole truth. But it is true most media outlets skew their reporting in favor of one ideology or the other i.e.faux news =conservative NBC = liberal
when have you ever heard Rachel Maddow, Ed Shultz, or Lawrence O’Donnell, Al Sharpton ever say a nice thing about a conservative but they defend Obama to the hilt. When have you ever heard a Sean Hannity, a Glen Beck or Brett Baier say a nice word about a Liberal
they don’t. Portland Press, Maine Media & Gannett = Liberal. BDN finally is starting to balance it’s reporting and MPBN always sticks with just the facts.
MPBN is liberal
lol…even i have to LOL at a commenter not knowing what Santorum said about JFK. Yes, please read the news or watch it sometime Davidg
I bet you have done nothing about the FBI’s take and wack job on President John Kennedy?
The History Channel made a 9 part series about the Assassination of President Kennedy.
The last show in the series was called THE GUILTY MEN.
It details the evidence for President Kennedy being assassinated by the FBI.
After becoming the most popular show in the series the History Channel pulled it off the air and refuse to sell it.
Google the guilty men jfk youtube
and watch the 45 minute version or click here to watch it

Shenna Bellows for Congress :) Good Luck Shenna !
Hanna Pingree for Congress :) Good Luck Hanna!
Mike Michaud is my Congressman and the best of all :) good Luck Mike!
I’m stickin with Mike also, he has always done what’s best for Maine and when a Mainer needs help he is right there.
yo 11
Mike UnBalanced Michaud has done zip, zero, nada to stop Global Warming and Climate Change, comprende?
http://www.heatisonline.org
Nobody is more left wing than Mike Michaud. Check his voting record. Its un freakin real.
The POrtland HErald had an interesting story about how Congress is getting more polarized with pretty graphs and everything. Funny thing is Mike Michaud was rated fairly close to the middle of the political spectrum, just like Snowe and Collins.

Even though it has already been said many times, I’ll say it again. Hannah Pingree is the most astute young political leader in Maine history. As Speaker of the House, she was absolutely superb.
Why is the state so far in the hole if she was so superb. If she was your financial planner and bankrupted you, I would think you would fire her? Or are you one of those who gives the Capt of the Titanic, another crack at the Ice Berg???
Dear Doom and Gloomer. The State is in excellent shape and we the people have never been better off. The cruise ships are filled as are all of the houses of entertainment. The restaurants are filled (27 restaurants in Augusta alone), gambling places are seeking help and the only people without a job are the small percentage of people who don’t want one. I don’t know how much politicians had to do with any of this but rest assure I remember when going to a restaurant for a meal was a major event in most households. Time you stopped looking at the dark side of the moon and started looking at the bright side of Hannah Pingree.
Bill , southern Maine ( AKA North Boston ) is so much different than the rest of the state. You should do some traveling .
No matter what State or what part of a State, you Doom and Gloomers will always find something negative to whine about and to blame a politician for it as though they had the power of a God to create the perfect universe – whatever that might be. For the masses, life has never been better or more prosperous. What you Doom and Gloomers need is about a week in a Conastoga wagon on the old Oregon Trail without even an aspirin for your headache or a roll of toilet paper to do you know what.
BDN–How about a chart of who is (thinking of…) moving into which seat?
It is certainly a lot like musical chairs, and entertaining to boot…
And keep that chart updated, there are new players every day!
Thanks.
Better not need any of those freedoms that are quickly being taken from us all, by the Dempublicans and Republocrats alike.
If you have any freedoms left over, you might be thanking the ACLU for them….
And do not plan of any form of “protest” nearby to your Congressmember. You might be charged with a felony!
(“Just when you thought the government couldn’t ruin the First Amendment any further: The House of Representatives approved a bill on Monday that outlaws protests in instances where some government officials are nearby, whether or not you even know it…”
http://dailythoughtpad.blogspot.com/2012/03/hr-347-just-passed-without-notice-us.html
You may want to read up on the cases the ACLU takes. You will quickly realize that the bill of rights is not there drivign force.
I am a proud ACLU supporter, with my hard-earned bucks.
I have marched for the right for Nazis to speak and Black Panthers too.
Shut them up and who is next? You? Me?
CIVIL LIBERTIES.
What are civil liberties exactly?
Glad you asked!
“Civil liberties are rights and freedoms that provide an individual specific rights such as the freedom from slavery and forced labor, freedom from torture and death, the right to liberty and security, right to a fair trial, the right to defend one’s self, the right to own and bear arms, the right to privacy, freedom of conscience, freedom of expression, freedom of assembly and association, and the right to marry and have a family.
Within the distinctions between civil liberties and other types of liberty, it is important to note the distinctions between positive rights and negative rights.
Common civil liberties include the rights of people, freedom of religion, and freedom of speech, and additionally, the right to due process, to a trial, to own property, and to privacy.
The formal concept of civil liberties dates back to the English legal charter theMagna Carta 1215, which in turn was based on pre-existing documents namely the English Charter of Liberties, a landmark document in English legal history….”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civil_liberties
Great answer. I am much more informed. What percent of the cases that the ACLU takes on are of right wing wackos like the American Nazi party vs. the percent that are left wing wackos like PETA? That answer would really help me change my mind about this group that I view as pretty much treasonous and in the tank for leftists.
“What are civil liberties exactly?”
Think the Bill of Rights. People who hate the ACLU hate a organization whose sole purpose is to protect the Bill of Rights.
I support people’s right to say stupid things about the ACLU, but they have to accept my right to called them political fools.
Objectively, the ACLU has worked on issues that YOU ( anyone !) supports.
Good for you. I am a jew and I to support the right of anybody to speak there mind even a Nazi. That is not the part they are not liked by me for.
Lets take the Minutemen for example do you know what they did there? The went in dirrect oposition to the Constitution and the law and went after law abiding citizens instead of those crossing the border ILLEGALITY.
The ACLU is a joke. They fight against privacy, Property owners and privacy not for them.
Actually, I believe they support the bill of rights. They only defend their favorite parts, tho.
Way to go gun guy, couldn’t have said it better myself.
More Shambolic Bellowing from the Maine CLU!
ACLU for something = I am against it. Pretty much 100% of the time. Are they taking the position that the Federal government should not force the Catholic church to pay for abortions?
“ACLU for something = I am against it.”
Well, that suah confirms why I oppose the Neo-Know Nothing conservative movement.
ACLU MISSION STATEMENT
Since its founding in 1920, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has been the guardian of liberty, working in the nation’s courts, legislatures and communities to defend and preserve individual working rights and liberties guaranteed by the Constitution and the laws of the United States. …. ”
http://www.nd.edu/~ndaclu/mission.htm
I think the ACLU is based more in Opportunism than Communism. It’s just easier to rabble-rouse the uninformed masses with promises of justice than it is to tell the truth and work in fairness.
Hey, it’s working with the tea party, which, under the Koch’s guidance, is premised in corporate facism, but hey, pick a side and fight to the end no matter how much you have to lie.
True, but I’m careful not to give any one entity too much credit for any movement. There is always much more to it, and it is nearly impossible to get the truth from either side of the political spectrum.
I think Rick Bennett is the best choice of those running for Senate. He hasn’t be in politics for awhile. He was one of the most respected people in the legislature while as Senate President when their was a split legislature. He worked very well with Democrats got things done wasn’t partisan. Even Emily Cain, Both Pingrees, Libby Mitchell respected him and got along with him. If he wins the primary he will be a force in the general if he has to run against King, Cutler and the Democrat. The Democrat will finish last with Bennett , King and Cutler fighting it out to the end in a very close race.
That looks like real blonde hair. Is she a real blonde?
Why are you not asking that about Charlie Summers’ hair?
OR Mike Michaud’s?
Why only the women?
Isn’t what is UNDER the hair that matters?
Don’t we want SMART legislators, and not pretty ones?
The recently enacted NDAA (supported by both Collins and Snowe) would not have been voted for by any ACLU member.
Thats what I said, after I stoped bouncing my head of the table.. God help us all…
Hannah looks prettier so I’ll vote for her… after all the voter is always get screwed
Hannah, Hannah,Hannah,,,tsk, tsk, tsk,,,,don’cha know that there’s NO future for ya’ here in this Loser State of confusion that we fondly refer to as Maine ???
Just do yourself a Favor dearie and move on down the line,,,, let’s say tooooo….hhhmmm…
Hawaii??? Hows’ That sound to you,,,, FUN ??!?!?
Sure it does, maybe Mommy can “loan” you a few $$$$$$$,,, just until ya’ get a steady job in,,,,ooooohhhhhh,,,, Surfin’ or putting the Flowers on Peeps necks when they get off of the Boat.
OK? Just trying to help the underprivaleged,,,, that’s ALL ;<) 357 FoReVeR
Mommy loan her the money? Please..you mean sugar daddy Sussman don’t you?
It’s all “Relative” ain’t IT.
Nice try, but you know better. Maine was the Commedy Channel way before now.
Framkly, people from other states are saluting Gov. LePage’s efforts and accomplishments of restoring the old Maine!
Mainer’s need to gamble here…vote for someone who has never held a state or federal office.
If you don’t take the risk we will lose again and again.
I’m sure that Mr Sussman has enough spare cash to buy both Pingree’s a seat and get the laws passed that he needs passed to continue to milk investors legally and make a few billion more. Democrats are all about the rich and nothing else matters to them. If you want representation, vote republican.
Got that a little backward, don’t ya?
it is in the dems playbook to always blame the reps for doing what they themselves are doing, and it works too, just watch any news channel ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, CNN.
Typical conservative strategy. Accuse the other side of doing what you are doing to deflect blame and then when you get caught saying “but, but the other side does it…..”
Interesting…..Didn’t Hanna’s step father just purchase some controlling portion of a Portland media outlet……..
Please Hannah NO. You are doing enough damage where you are.
Examples, please!
Has she ever wroked a day in her life other than hack Gov jobs? Any DPS jobs?? (Dreaded Private Sector)
Soooooo…..no examples?
Never any examples from Egg
Cant recall Hannah ever working a real job?
Folkes, if she runs she wins easy!!! huge war chest and campaign team. Go hannah!!
Even Democrats should be uncomfortable with the idea of mother and daughter both running for higher office. That is too much power in one family. And if the Pingrees had any sense of honor or even common sense they would realize it as well.
You’re opposed to Rand and Ron Paul both having seats too then?
Yes, I am. The only good point in Rand Paul’s favor is that he actually has worked in the private sector for many years.
Nice bias in headline, easy to see who the BDN will endorse. One candidate gets name in headline, the others get current job descriptions.
Pingree has a higher public profile than Bellows.
Olympia got booed at the GOP caucus …
she’s not looking so awful now, huh?
People on here are so mean. And so full of themselves. It makes me laugh on a daily basis.
I have a headache.
Please take the time to read the history of the ACLU from inception to the present. If anything, you might get the idea that the simplistic tripe you’ve been fed isn’t very palatable after all.
My “simplistic tripe” is right on. As a retired federal investigator I had the privilege of dealing with the aclu and their frivolous lawsuits for 20 plus years. I know exactly what they are. Your shallow ‘knowledge’ has nothing of value to offer or enlighten anyone.
Right wing republicans oppose the ACLU. What a big surprise.;)
But then these are the same frauds who used the 14th amendment’s equal protection clause to make it illegal to only hire American workers in Maine.
looks to me like anything one might want to add to this article has already been covered. :)
I dont think that there are two worse candidates out there! pingree or sheena bellows? OMG, this will be the final nail!
Worry about your own party. And I do mean worry. Mitt Romney? Even his own party doesn’t want him, good luck with the Independent voters.
Just remember…investors, socialists and welfare vote democrat…workers, entrepreneurs and free people vote Republican!
Middle class, working poor vote democrat…………….ceo’s, rich people vote republican
Layabouts, parasites, GOv hacks vote for Pingrees!
What income level is considered middle class??? I know a lot of people in the 30k to 60k that do not vote dems.
The majority of unions vote dem now as well.
In this instance a lawbreaker would be more desirable than this choice for lawmaker. All of her resume screams of governmental control over people. No freedom supporter here. Like any true democrat though she will do exactly what she is told by the party leadership.
I thought people might be interested in seeing how Bad Seed Hannah Pingree’s mom
Chellie Pingree and UnBalanced Michaud voted for this Police State legislation.
The only people voting against it were 3 republicans! The ACLU was nowhere to be found, eh?
We have been following HR 347 closely on our National Lawyers’ Guild List
Occupy Defense Serve. Passage was under radar and rushed in
anticipation of the upcoming G20 in May as well as the parties’ national
conventions this summer. It is a vast expansion of government power to
squelch dissent, and sadly only 3 House members voted no (all Republican I might add!!!) Chellie
Pingree and Mike Michaud both voted FOR. In my view, through clever
wordsmithing, it effectively means that the law is no longer confined to
civil disobedience but is expanded to include heretofore lawful
protest. One driving force behind the recent change in the law (in my
view) is a $6 million settlement recently achieved by the National
Lawyers Guild on behalf of 700 citizens who were wrongfully detained and
arrested during protests against the Iraq War in
Chicago in March of 2003 (that protest drew 10,000 people). http://www.nlg.org/news/press-releases/nlg-reaches-6-2-million-settlement-in-class-action-against-chicago-police/
My theory on this has to do with the fact that the G20 is taking place
in Chicago this May, and the organizers want to make sure Chicago police
have free reign.
It
has been approved by both House and Senate (Senate passed the change in
the law by a voice vote on February 5, 2012 so the public has no right
to know who voted for or against!!!! Senate made amendments to the
original House version, which is why it went back to House for another
vote on February 28th to conform to the Senate amendments).
After Obama signs it (anticipated), it will likely be the subject of a challenge under the 1st
amendment, which hopefully can be accomplished in advance of the G20
this May. This is classic chilling of speech and protest of the kind
courts disdain. That said, we are in the Citizens United era, in which corporations have broad protections under 1st amendment and people increasingly have few.
Do any of the ACLU detrators have any arguments against the ACLU that they formed objectively, or are they all parroted “points” from Beck/Limbaugh/other fringe sources? Just curious.
Ridiculous. The ACLU is a solid defender of the real Constitution not the re-written version of the far right.
Jonathan, Where can I find a copy of the ‘other’ Constitution? I guess I haven’t heard about that one.
Whatever the original intention of the ACLU was, I no longer support it, as, as someone else remarked, the picking and choosing of what is important to them is no longer palatable.
And dealings with Bellows have not been at all encouraging.
Markham Gartley is pursuing the Congressional District 1 race, also. He was Sec. of State in the 70’s as a D, but must have found himself to agree more with the R’s, — he switched parties in 1993.
Do any Democrats actually work for a living anymore? How about some real world experience for a change?
The ACLU has it’s beginnings based in communism. A few minutes of research will uncover this unpopular truth. And the ACLU hasn’t moved far from it’s beginnings. A vote for anyone who is associated with, or who supports the ACLU is a vote for their ideals. Please be aware of this when you go to the polls.
