BANGOR, Maine — Bangor Community Gardens needs your votes. It has entered a contest in which the organization can win up to $4,000 in grant funds. Bangor Community Gardens is one of 15 gardens from across the United States and Canada to compete. If it wins the grant, the funds will be used to expand the garden on Essex Street and to start other gardens in the city, said Charlie Boothby, one of the garden organizers.

Space at Bangor Community Gardens is rented to those who wish to have a garden but have no space of their own for one. Some of the produce grown by volunteers at the gardens is donated to local food pantries.

The grant is sponsored by Deloach Vineyards and Organic Gardening Magazine. Votes may be placed once each day through Aug. 6 at
