AUGUSTA, Maine — More legislative votes are expected following the Senate’s rejection of a bill that would have increased fines for violations of Maine’s laws on campaign advertising.
The Senate on Wednesday rejected by a 19-16 vote a bill that seeks to increase penalties for political action committees or party committees that fail to comply with a law requiring timely disclosure of advertising sponsorship.
In Wednesday’s debate, Democratic Sen. Phil Bartlett of Gorham said that during the 2010 election cycle, money flowed into Maine in flagrant disregard of the rules. He says the current fines are so low that they’re considered part of the cost of doing business. The law would have assessed a fine up to $100,000 for reporting violations.
The measure goes to the House for consideration as early as Thursday.

Of course! Big surprise here eh? Why would they do anything that might work against them even if it is the ethically and morally right thing to do.
“Maine Senate rejects bill to increase fines for political ad violations…”
Of course they did.
I’ll bet that vote followed the party line.
Hmmm…seems like the ROBthePUBLICans just voted to make sure their PACs can continue to violate Maine campaign laws. This just in…Sun rises in East…
thats what happens when the fox is watching the hen house nobody will bite the hand that feeds them and the violators will be charged with breaking the law “NOT”
If anyone had any doubt about the Repubs being corrupted by the corporate cash cow, this proves otherwise. They only pretend to represent the people.
Arrest Lepage ,

Get over it or at least learn how to spell business.

Of course they will, and because only they can,, just like giving themselves raises and great health care plans etc. Legal crooks ?? :-/
It should be raised or perhaps proportional to the amount spent in the violation.
