GARLAND, Maine — A local man who apparently fell sometime during the night was found deceased by his wife Sunday morning when she got up to feed the horses, Deputy James Kennedy of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office said.
Maxwell Dorre, 54, was found at around 6:45 a.m. in a breezeway between the house and the barn, the deputy said Sunday.
The investigation is ongoing and, “It’s very preliminary, but there is nothing that looks suspicious,” Kennedy said. “It looks like he had gone to get some wood and had fallen.”
The couple had been drinking the night before and Dorre’s wife went to bed before him, the deputy said.
While police were investigating the death, several family members arrived to comfort Dorre’s widow, Kennedy said.
“It’s unfortunate,” the deputy said.

So sad, sincere condolences to his wife and family.
Max was a great guy with a big heart. Sometimes it was hard to see by people that did not know him well.

Not even close to an acceptable statement! Max was and April is, people with huge hearts! My heart goes out to you April. Max, I hope you can rest in peace knowing that you were loved by many.
RIP
RIP Max… April will be lost without you!!!
I loved working with Max at horse shows when I was the announcer and he the ringmaster! He always was making me laugh…..The horse world will miss you!
I think the focus here should be on the loss of a life. The poor wife and family !! Who needs to be slinging negativities in such a time of loss.
I new max well I work with him for about 10 years . One lesson that could be learned is how alcohol can make decent people have many problems. I have been there myself . I am so lucky I was able to quit before my son was born 13 years ago. No hard feeling against anyone. April was there for him when he needed her the most for that I have a great deal of respect. I do not feel I was slinging maybe the wrong choice or words at the wrong time for that I apologize . Just feel a lesson could be learned that could help other people.
Max was our son’s soccer coach years ago , he was a good coach. He and April had their challenges but don’t we all.
Garland lost a good man today. Rest in peace max. Prayers of peace and love to April and the whole family. Max gave his time to many, smiled, laughed and joked alot. He was a kind man who will be remember in our community.
Very sad. I don’t think Max had an easy life. I think a lesson about alcohol could be learned from this couple.
Exactly what I was trying to say. I guess it is the wrong time and the wrong place to do so. A lot of us know the story to bad we can not use it to help others understand Without making it look like we are trying to hurt someone in a time of need.
I agree. I knew what you were trying to say. I know everyone is hurting but it still doesn’t change the fact that this was a mess.
>>>>>it’s in poor taste
Max was a good man so is april . Maybe it is in poor taste . I think the bigger picture is we would like people to know how alcohol can make good people make serious mistakes . Most people who drink do not understand what could happen. Maybe it could help someone else.
I understand what you are saying and I do agree that drunkenness is not a good thing. Especially when it becomes a part of everyday life. But Max was my uncle and I do feel that it is very crass of you to be speaking so of him in a public forum so soon after his death. Have a little decency would you! None of my family needs to read this about them when we are all so heartbroken.
Great point Juli about some people who comment here. They would be better to be thought a fool than open their mouths and remove all doubt.
Would someone at Bangor Daily News please explain to me why the reporter was so careless that he/she couldn’t even spell my uncle’s last name correctly? Does the story need to hit the streets that fast??? It’s spelled Doore.
Before making judgement about others; make sure your hands are clean! I am so sorry for the loss. God bless all involved.
