ORONO, Maine — Three University of Maine students were charged with underage drinking in separate incidents Thursday, UMaine spokesman Ron Lisnet said Friday.

Both incidents took place in Somerset Hall, Lisnet said.

Just after 9 p.m., campus police responded to a report of underage drinking in Somerset Hall. When they got to a dorm room, they found Gregory Forest, 18, the resident of the room, to be in possession of alcohol, Lisnet said.

Forest was issued a summons while three others in the room weren’t charged, Lisnet said.

About four hours later, police were called back to Somerset Hall on another underage drinking report.

This time, Adam Houle, 19, and Zoe Swaffar, 18, earned summonses for underage drinking, Lisnet said.

  1. You have to pay taxes you can buy a firearm but you can serve you country but no booze? I still just do not get it.

    1. alot of us drank when I was in the army at 18.  we never had a problem. if things got out of hand oh yeah then there would be hell to pay, but if things were kept civil no one ever got into trouble. too much paperwork I imagine. Old enough to be on a special weapons team, old enough for a beer.

  2. So sad,   young people can’t relax with a drink even though they are probably smarter and just as responsible as the guy arresting them.

  3. wow, what a crime wave.  The whole UMPD is a gigantic waste of money (some of which is taxpayer).  They should just hire a bunch of security guards and anything major be turned over to the county so they can justify their jobs.  I am getting tired about reading these stories

  4. I’ve read about underage drinking at the college quite often lately. I’m glad to see the PD is cracking down on this.  Drinking , possessing alcohol under the age of 21 is against the law whether someone thinks it’s OK or not !
