BATH, Maine — A Brunswick man has been arrested for felony operating under the influence in connection with a serious accident last month that left four people injured.
Joseph T. Boyington, 22, turned himself in on Friday afternoon after Bath Patrol Officer Jason Aucoin obtained an arrest warrant for Class C aggravated OUI, according to a Bath Police Department press release.
According to police, Boyington was under the influence of alcohol and driving too fast at about 6:35 p.m. March 19 when the 2003 Acura he was driving rear-ended another vehicle. Boyington and his passenger, Michael Mason, 21, were traveling north on Route 1 in the passing lane when the vehicle struck a guardrail in the median, traveled back across the passing lane and into a 2008 Lincoln SUV with an extreme amount of force, according to the press release. The SUV was driven by Stephanie Thacker of Brunswick, who also had a passenger. All four people involved were hospitalized.
Mason suffered the most serious injuries and remains hospitalized. Thacker and her 11-year-old son are “doing well,” according to the press release, but still recovering from their injuries.
Boyington was released from Two Bridges Regional Jail on $500 cash bail with conditions that he not possess liquor or drugs and submit to daily supervision by the Volunteers of America. He faces a June 19 court date in Sagadahoc County Superior Court.

Yes and also anyone that has not had 8 hours sleep on any medication or distracted driving. Some people at the .08 limit are much better drivers than others with no alcohol . It depends on tolerance. Some facts many people do not understand is in the first 2 years after an alcoholic stop drinking the likely hood of being in an accident is higher than if the did not stop drinking. We need a real measure to measure impaired driving . BAC is just an educated guess at best.
