Firefighters quickly put out a fire in the basement of a Bucksport home Monday afternoon, April 23, 2012. Capt. Pam Payson of the Bucksport Fire Department said that the dryer caught fire and the resulting smoke was pouring from the windows as crews arrived. The fire melted the plastic water pipes, which helped save the structure.  Crews from Bucksport, Orland and Orrington responded to the fire.

  1. A built-in sprinkler system!
Seriously, keep your dryer vents clean and don’t leave things running when you leave. I got up one night for some water and smelled hot plastic. The old time fuse for the dryer had cracked open and all the wires in the fuse box were melting down to the floor. I’ll never do that again!

    1. Yes, we had a washing machine catch fire one time.  Who would have thought!  Thankfully we were home to disconnect the power and extinguish the (still) minor flames.  Since then we do not run ANY appliance if we are not at home and awake to keep an eye on things.
