PARIS, Maine — An Oxford woman is facing two counts of manslaughter, among other charges, in connection with a crash that killed two people earlier this year.
Kristina Lowe, 19, allegedly was reading or sending a text message at the time of the crash, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said in a statement.
Lowe had been drinking the night of the accident, according to McCausland, and she also was speeding.
Lowe was arrested without incident at her home Tuesday morning by Trooper Thomas Welch, McCausland said. She is facing two counts of Class A manslaughter; two counts of aggravated operating under the influence, a Class B crime; two counts of Class C driving to endanger; and a single count of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death.
The Jan. 7 crash took the lives of Rebecca Mason, 16, of West Paris and Logan Dam, 19, of Norway. Lowe was driving a 2002 Subaru that left Route 219 and vaulted into a stand of trees. Mason and Dam, along with Jacob Scaff, 22, all were passengers in the vehicle.
Additional charges in connection with the party Lowe attended are pending, McCausland said.
Lowe was taken to the Oxford County Jail and is being held on $25,000 bail. Her first court appearance is set for Wednesday morning.
