OWLS HEAD, Maine — The Tuesday evening death of a 5-month-old boy is being investigated by the Maine State Police.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office was called to a residence on the Ballyhac Road in Owls Head concerning a 5-month-old who was unresponsive at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. When the first deputy arrived on the scene, the child had already been taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport by Rockland emergency medical services.

EMS personnel performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the child, according to a news release from Knox County Chief Deputy Tim Carroll. But at about 8:45 p.m., Lt. Kirk Guerrette of the sheriff’s office was notified that the child was pronounced dead at the hospital.

As is standard procedure based on state law, the death of any child younger than 3 years old is investigated by the Maine State Police.

Sheriff Donna Dennison said Wednesday morning that she could not comment further on the case and referred questions to the state police.

  1. Enough allready.  If there is an indication of foul-play please report it. Otherwise give the family privacy.

    1. agreed. the law says that such deaths have to be investigated. that does not mean a story. C’mon BDN get some humanity.

      1. I’ve come to the conclusion that humanity and dignity are not in any newspaper’s vocabulary. I have seen this paper ruin the life of two young VICTIMS because they published the abusing father’s name  and ALL the details. While they did not publish the victims’ names, everybody knows the man, and who his kids are. The mom and the kids had to move away from town to start over again because then EVERYBODY in town knew about it. I complained to the paper, and their response was that it serves as a deterrent to other abusers. My reply to that was it only serves to deter the victims from reporting it because they don’t want their private humiliation aired on the front page of the paper. I’m still so angry about this.

  2. There have been too many babies dying lately here in Maine. What’s going on?

    RIP little one.
