DEDHAM, Maine — Maine forest rangers have charged an Ellsworth man with littering for allegedly dumping trash in Dedham.
Rangers say that Albert Dow, Jr., 49, has been issued a summons for allegedly dumping refuse on Lily Road in the Hancock County town. Rangers say that an alert neighbor saw some suspicious activity and made note of the vehicle description and plate number, which rangers then used to track down Dow. The litter consisted of several old tires and pieces of lawn furniture.
“We are always pleased when citizens step up and provide information like this to us,” said ranger supervisor Jeff Currier. “We will use this information to do our best to track down illegal dumpers.”
If convicted, Dow faces a minimum $500 fine, costs of cleanup and potential suspension of his recreational licenses. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Ellsworth District Court in July.
To report illegal dumping, contact the Maine Forest Service at 800-750-9777 or go to the “report violations” link at maineforestservice.gov.

Wish they could catch them all…People like him are the major cause of gates and no trespassing signs.
no trespassing signs are useless unless you got cameras
Very true. Trespassing signs and padlocks on keep out honest people.
Even honest people do illegal dumping, i know a person personally that is very honest, but when they get new furniture, which by the way is every two to three years, goes and dumps it in a field in Houlton. Never caught.
this is not an honest person. he/she is defiling property of others or the public.
Perhaps you could be an upstanding citizen and report this person.
been reported several times, not caught hpd say they must catch them in the act but they are too busy doing other things,
Not honest in my book. How about we spend a couple bucks for a landfill permit and take it there? Or better yet, it may be crap to them but it could be the couch, table, or bed that a person struggling to get by can’t afford to buy. Calling them honest is laughable as and a friend you should be setting them straight.
She never was the type to give her stuff down to anyone. Amazes me for going to church, growing up in a church family. You never know, she might have finally got caught, been years since ive been up there, no interest in going to Houlton
Unless a person can read, and respect other peoples property.
It’s not so much tresspassing but disregard for throwing trash into the earth to leach chemicals and ugliness around. It’s downright laziness and ignorance that the world is their landfill.

Maybe if the cost of disposing items at the local landfill was a little cheaper, we would see less of this happening. Tires for example when you buy a new one you get a disposal charge on it, then when you go to the dump with the old ones you are getting charged again. Maybe a free disposal day once in awhile would be a benefit to many.
If the store/garage is charging you a disposal free, then why are you disposing of it and not them? Same with car batteries and engine oil.
This free day you speak of, cost all of us taxpayers. They are your tires you pay the disposal fee to get rid of them not eveyone ekse.
Cant make everyone happy can you. .How about Ashland transfer station they charge for nothing due to the scare of having illegal dumping in the Northern Woods. The citizens pay everyday for that luxury. So if a small rinky town can afford to do this every day, a larger town and or city could afford to do this say once a year! Will this solve the problem NO its the ignorance of some that needs to be changed
Even if it was free people are still going to dump stuff illegally. They will be five minutes late arriving at the dump and gate is closed, many of these people will not return home and unload. They find a woods road dump the stuff and drive off. I live in a town that doesn’t charge for tires they give you a pass when you reg your vehicle that allows you to dispose of 4 tires each year for free. Guess why i closed off my land, TIRES dumped on my land that i had to haul to the transfer station and use my free pass that was issued for my truck. So dont think one free day a year will solve this problem. Enough locked gates so people cant use private land and maybe they will start disposing of their own trash legally. Dont blame the Town or City for people being lazy.
Headline news?? Really??
If it was in your front dooryard it would be!!!
“Illegal dumping” – interesting………..where is there legal dumping along Maine’s highways and bi-ways??
Why didnt he just dump it at the Ellsworth City Hall Parking lot? He could have saved all that gas.
Good, glad they got him. Blatant disrespect for our environment. Instead of fines, he should be ordered to clean up the sides of the road, other sites where folks have dumped crap, etc. Make these folks work hard to pay back for their ignorance.
Set the stuff beside the road with a free sign on it. You’d be surprised at what people will pick up. There are those that can not afford much and may find your trash a treasure.
Better yet place a sign that says 4 sale, someone will steal them before you return to the house.
LMFAO

Police are tied up with pharmacy robberies, burglaries, and other crimes-there is little money available to chase down people like this. It would be much cheaper to just let them bring it to the dump for nothing. This will only get worse. The public has no idea how much trash is already out in the vast Maine woods.
