STOCKTON SPRINGS, Maine — Police on Thursday released two images that officials hope will help them apprehend the man accused of violently sexually assaulting a 61-year-old woman Monday in her home.
The victim described her attacker as being between 35 and 45 years old and 6 feet tall. He has dark hair, hazel eyes and a distinctive, anchor-shaped facial scar on the right side of his face.
One image should give people a better idea of what the scar looks like, according to Lt. Jason Trundy of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.
The other image gives an example of what the assailant’s finger tattoos might look like. The word “hate” is possibly tattooed on his left fingers, according to the images released by police.
Police have had a few tips but nothing so far has panned out, Trundy said. He said that for various reasons, the police do not have a composite sketch they wish to release at this point.
The assailant was driving a blue car with a large white decal or emblem on the hood, according to the victim, who contacted police after the afternoon attack.
She was taken to a hospital where she was treated and then released, Detective Jason Bosco said Tuesday.
Police are planning to hold a press conference about the search for the rape suspect Friday morning at the sheriff’s office.
Anyone with information about the case can call the Waldo County Sheriff’s Department at 207-338-6786.

Dear God, how do people get to be this way!? Obviously the attacker was insane, no sane person would ever harm another.
That scar ought to make this fella stand right out.
Well this the detailed image of the perpetrator there should be no problem in identifying him……pfffffffffft.
I pay taxes to the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office for this type of sketch artist? That’s a doozy let me tell ya, my imagination image from the description in the BDN original story is better than that image.
Why don’t you read it again. It says it is just to show where the scar is along with shape and size. It distinctly said they did not want to release a composite sketch just yet.
I’ve read it and reread it trying to get a mental picture of the guy, believe me. Why won’t they release a sketch? If you’re driving down the road it’s pretty hard to see/notice that scar if he’s driving a car, but if you were looking for the person’s overall facial features and hair style, personally I think it would easier, especially if he’s not in the blue car anymore. It’s frustrating and too close to home and I hope somebody notices him today.
I agree 100% they should’ve released a sketch. Guess they’ll wait till the second rape. Waldo county isn’t a very bright bunch. The pd not citizens.
Maybe she was in a state of shock when she was being RAPED…perhaps she wasn’t thinking aobut having to sit with a sketch artist if she lived through this terrible ordeal. It was very good that she recalled the scar and tattoo’s on his fingers. Bashing Waldo County PD is just ignorant — like you know all the details and why they are not being released and can set in judgement of what and when information should be released.
maybe the woman wasn’t able to give enough details to create a composite sketch…there’s always factors that the public doesn’t know about…
Maybe the victim was unable to give a good description of the rapist’s face, but the police want the rapist to think otherwise. Don’t you people watch Law and Order? It’s the oldest trick in the book!
Well march your bum right down to the sheriffs office like a good tax paying concerned citizen and draw up a real picture and we’ll wait for an update in a few hours. Perhaps minutes after your talents are posted the $#@&* will be located and taken down and you’ll be a hero to all females in Maine.
Females in Maine? You don’t think this affects husbands, fathers, sons, brothers, it bothers me as a man that another man good be so despicable. I’m not trying to be a hero, but if there is a sketch why wouldn’t it be released?
It’s better to have a sketch that shows ONLY features that are distinctive and they are very sure of, than a more complete sketch that may not be accurate. Remember, any sketch of this type relies on the traumatized victims memory and their ability to communicate that to a police artist so less distinctive features may easily become confused. Best to leave out any features the victim is unsure of. How many men in this area do you think have a facial scar similar to the one in the sketch? The existing sketch caught my attention and I’m sure that anyone who reads this article and sees this sketch will make the connection if they see someone with a facial scar like that.
I was kind of under the impression, he probably isn’t interested in raping men. Because I didn’t mention men and pets or trees, because I was under the impression he was more interested in raping females of the human kind. It means no more or no less than that. But if it will make you feel better, men, dogs and trees are not usually targets for rape and sure it may make a man feel like he should have to hang around the house instead of running the roads, I think men don’t fear getting raped like a woman might feel.
I don’t get why you’d say a thing about a photo, when they used examples, said they were using examples pictures should clearly imply, they do not have a picture yet.
Whats wrong with being a Hero?
Sounds like 2 very distinctive features to me. I think that’s this is better than a face as you are looking for a very specific and distinctive mark. A lot of faces look very similar.
Uncalled for comment
Sure are a lot of identifying marks . I hope this simplifies the catch. Creepo!
Wow… this guy is pretty bold to do this in the middle of the day leaving a witness, driving a car that sounds somewhat unique and most importantly… not trying to hide his face or cover up a very distinctive scar. A rapist this brazen is surely very dangerous. I hope they catch him soon before he strikes again.
Again, BDN… He would be a SUSPECT not an ACCUSED. Who does your editing?
The man is dangerous. The woman was traumatized, Probably didn’t really get a good look at him any way. I wouldn’t if I were in her shoes. I’m not sure I would be able to come forward if it were me. Scarey stuff. Hope he is caught soon.
I am sure this will affect this poor women for the rest of her life. She will never really feel safe again in her own home. This is tragic! I hope they will find this guy soon before he decides; not to leave any witnesses. Our world has become a very dangerous place. I hope soon this sicko will be behind bars so that the victim can feel a little safer.
