NEWPORT, Maine — Two serious car crashes happened within a half-hour of each other along Route 7 on Sunday morning, Newport Police Chief Leonard Macdaid said Monday.

Lynne Snow, 66, of Dover-Foxcroft fell asleep at the wheel of her 2010 Hyundai at 10:50 a.m., Macdaid said. He said Snow woke up in the opposite lane, overcorrected her car and wound up in the right-side ditch. The car rolled and came to rest on the driver’s side.

An ambulance was called but Snow refused treatment, Macdaid said. She complained of soreness in her body and arms.

At 11:12 a.m., a car was rear-ended along the same road, Macdaid said.

Anita Morales, 59, of Corinna was stopped in her 2002 Chrysler and was preparing to turn left into the Dog House Drive-In when she was rear-ended by Jerome Moore, 84, of Dixmont, who was driving a 1994 Honda.

“He failed to see her in the road,” Macdaid said.

Both complained of neck injuries and were taken to Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield.

No charges were filed against any driver. All of the vehicles were demolished, said Macdaid.

  1. If the 84 year old man can’t see what is in front of him while driving, he needs his eyes checked and till this happens the state needs to pull his license!

    1.  I would have to agree. I know exactly where this is, and can not understand how or why he couldn’t see a car waiting to turn!

    2. The Dog House is right on a straight section of  busy Route 7, very scary to think he just didn’t see the car.

  2. No charges? Really? Destroy cars and nobody is held accountable? The Dog House is on one of the most open sections of route 7. No but I get it, too much paperwork instead Newport must still focus on pulling people over for stuff they never did, and spend 2 hearings in court to get it tossed out.

  3. If anyone at any age can’t see what’s in front of them, they shouldn’t be driving!

  4. I feel horrible for the folks involved in these crashes, but come on!  I’m getting really sick of sharing the road with tired and distracted drivers.  As licensed drivers, we ALL have an equal responsibility to make the roadways safe for everyone else and us included!  If you’re tired, don’t drive.  If you’re drunk, don’t drive.  If you have to answer a text message, pull over.  If you just plain old can’t drive or see, get off the roads!

  5. strange all the people in these accidents are “elderly’???? Thank God no one was seriously injured as it could have been much worse.  What is the time frame for having elderly drivers checked for vision, reaction times, remember rules of the road, etc…oh wait, we don’t do all of that, do we?
