PORTLAND, Maine — A Portland man and woman have been sentenced to 10 years each in prison for what a prosecutor called an “animalistic” sexual assault of another woman with dowels and a golf club.
The Portland Press Herald reports that Karla Wilson and Shawn Batchelder were each sentenced Thursday to 25 years in prison with all but 10 suspended after pleading guilty to gross sexual assault.
Prosecutors say the victim was the mother of Batchelder’s son, who was in the neonatal unit of a nearby hospital at the time of the August attack. The assault occurred just three weeks after the victim had undergone a Caesarean section.
Prosecutors say the assault began when Wilson got angry because she believed Batchelder and the victim had stolen drugs.
Both defendants apologized in court.
10 Years, What a joke. They should have got the full 25 years at a minimum.

A sexual attack on his Mother of his son with a Golf club and dowels… Real classy…especially after the woman has a recent C-section. Both should have been required to serve full sentences.
BTW, is this the same KARLA WILSON that was having the sexual encounters in the Cumberland CountyJail: “Arien L’Italien, 23, of Biddeford, slipped from his maximum-security Cumberland County Jail unit by finagling with the lock around 11:50 p.m., according to a statement from the county sheriff’s department. After freeing himself from the cell, he moseyed over to Karla Wilson’s place in the pen. While in her quarters, the two had sex. The guard saw L’Italien as he tried to crawl back to his cell at 12:50 a.m.”
Lucky it wasn’t me…they both would have gotten a death sentence.Hope the new mother can recover from this and that the child never sees their “father.”
The judge must have liked them because they got off pretty easy; especially compared to the weed seller way up north that probably never hurt anybody.

The assault took place in Wilson’s apartment where all 3 were living and apparently involved with dealing drugs. The baby was in the neonatal unit of the hospital, which is located nearby.
