JAY, Maine — A Jewell Street man was arrested Sunday after police warned him several times to turn his radio down, after which police said they overheard him telling a friend he was going to get a gun and shoot police.
Timothy Moras, 50, of Jay was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and criminal threatening, police Chief Larry White Sr. said Tuesday.
Police responded to a complaint of loud music at 9:50 p.m. Saturday at 20 Jewell St., White said.
Officers Mike Mejia and Nicholas Gulliver went to the residence and asked Moras to turn the music down or off, he said. They warned him if they had to come back, he could be arrested, White said.
At 12:07 a.m. Sunday a complaint of loud music came in, and the caller said it sounded like it was coming from Jewell Street or Marcello Street area. The two streets are adjacent.
The officers found Moras sitting in an older Cadillac with the top down on Marcello Street.
The car was not running but Moras was talking to another person and he had his radio blasting, White said.
Officers told Moras to turn the radio off and if they had to come back, he would be arrested, he said.
Moras became “quite confrontational” with police and pulled out his cellphone saying he could check the decibels on it, but he couldn’t, White said.
Moras was under the influence of alcohol during the incident, he said.
Officers believed that with the condition Moras was in that they should leave but only go a short distance away, he said. They stayed within hearing distance.
A short time later they heard yelling and growling. They also heard Moras tell another person that police were out to get him, White said.
They also overheard Moras tell the other person he was going to get his “30-30 rifle and going to start shooting cops,” White said.
Police went back to the car and Moras was still confrontational, he said.
The officers arrested Moras at that time.

When one is listening to Tobey sing Red Solo Cup you must have the volume up for maximum effects…..
What’s this world coming to when a man can’t sit in his car get drunk and turn his radio loud enough to drive his nieghbors crazy. Give him a set of headphones and turn him loose. Just a thought.
I believe we need to start adding coping skills to our school curriculum. Maybe than some of these people who obviously have none will have a chance to succeed in this world. Seems to me like this gentleman never learned to control his emotions. So now the taxpayer must fit the bill for his grown up temper tantrum.
The loud radios are far more of a problem than motorcycles. The young people, as well as some older folks have no respect for anyone. I do not want to hear your radio blaring all night.
