BANGOR, Maine — A 72-year-old Bangor man was heading north on Broadway about 6 p.m. Sunday when the minivan he was driving struck one car and then smashed head-on into another vehicle, killing his wife, who was his passenger, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said.
“Speed does seem to be a factor,” the sergeant said Sunday night, just feet from where the crash occurred near the Kev-Lan coffee shop at the junction of Broadway and Burleigh Road.
Ralph Morrison was identified as the driver of the minivan. His wife, Diane Morrison, 68, died at the scene. Ralph Morrison and six others injured in the collisions were sent to area hospitals, Edwards said in press releases.
Morrison was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center.
“His condition is not known at this time,” Edwards said Monday of Morrison, whom he described Sunday night as “incapacitated” and unable to answer questions.
Police have not yet interviewed Morrison, the sergeant said Monday.
Morrison’s 2007 Hyundai minivan first struck a 2000 Toyota driven by Bangor resident Wynona Butera, 71, who also was outbound on Broadway.
Her passengers, Evelyn Dowdy, 71, and Mary Cox, 90, were either transported by ambulance or went to local hospitals on their own, the sergeant said.
“Morrison’s vehicle careened off the 2000 Toyota and struck a third vehicle head-on that was traveling south on Broadway at the intersection — a 2002 GMC operated by 46-year-old Lisa Pelkey of Eddington,” Edwards said in a press release. “Her passengers, 47-year-old Raymond Pelkey and 11-year-old Alyssa Pelkey, along with Lisa, were all transported to EMMC.”
“Alyssa is in good condition,” Kelly Pearson, a spokeswoman for the hospital, said Monday morning. No information is available about her parents, or Morrison, she and another hospital official said.
Police are investigating why Morrison’s vehicle went out of control, as they do with all fatal crashes. The police department’s accident reconstruction team, which spent hours Sunday night at the scene, and criminal investigations division are investigating.
One eyewitness said Morrison’s vehicle “clipped that car there [the Toyota] and went out of control.”
Another witness said: “I heard screeching and looked out my passenger window and the SUV [the GMC vehicle] was straight up in the air. The next second the SUV was rolling over and glass was everywhere. It happened so quickly.”
Police are still looking for people who witnessed the fatal crash or have information about it. Those with information are asked to contact the Bangor Police Department at 947-7382. The anonymous tip line can be accessed by pressing ext. 6.

Wow! This is a different scenario than we were told last night. I hope that the surviving victims heal quickly!
they havent come out with the conditions of the other people of if someone else dies they have to come out with that
This was NOT what we heard last night standing there talking to the people who saw it happen. Extremely sad for everyone involved!
I know what I saw. This report is wrong. I saw the SUV go sliding sideways before hitting the minivan and spinning them around.
so the enovy was coming down broadway going out headed towards outer broadway?? and the mini van was coming up broadway headed in town?
Yeah, all the witnesses have been saying it was the Envoy that was speeding, most even describing how the accident happened, but all of a sudden it’s the 72 year old in the minivan… This seems “fishy”.
Yes, the police are doing a “cover up” PLEASE, give me a break!!!!!
they may have been both speeding
perhaps the SUV was sliding sideways to avoid getting hit by the speeding minivan?? I would too if I had my child in the car.
It went sideways after swiping the first car.
Isn’t the the opposite of what was reported last night? Wow. Way to go BDN.
The police are working on facts and what presents. No one wants to think someone they know could cause/be in an accident. Let the professionals do their jobs. And keep everyone in your prayers.
you know i say this due to budget cuts the police dont do what they are supposed to do. on 95 i see very few state cops any more used to see them all over the place used to see cops parked watching for speeders you dont see that any more . the area they should have a cop parked watching for speeders might slow people down some .
very sad indeed
Your post needs to be at the top. Studies have proven eye-witness testimony to be far less reliable than previously thought.
The skid marks start before the entrance of Gifford’s where the Hyundai mini-van clipped the Camry and end just before the intersection where it hit the Envoy; roughly 125 feet.
A witness posting here said the mini van was coming from out of town heading towards town and that it was the SUV that was coming from behind the Camry.
Very, very sad. Hoping for a speedy recovery for all the survivors. For the deceased, RIP, dear lady. I’m sure you will be missed.
So what really happened here? I’m surprised no one is blaming the driver of the Toyota yet…
They were cute, 3 older ladies. Offered to get them water and the one of the said, “Im hungry, I just wanted to go to dinner” It was my only chuckle of the day.
I think the Bangor Police have a pretty good track record of getting it right, whether its a accident reconstruction or a criminal investigation. I seriously doubt that they have any incentive to “cover up” this accident, as this has been suggested. I wasn’t at the accident or have any knowledge of it. But I do know that the power of suggestion is a powerful thing and many witnesses ‘remember’ seeing something after they have heard it repeated a few times by others. With the intensity and emotions of this scene I can understand how that could happen. I don’t believe that it is intentional for someone to give a wrong statement, but with the chaos, accurate interpretation could be difficult. The police have the advantage of knowing the recent history of these people prior to the crash. Such as the mini-van was heading out of town to a particular destination and likewise the Envoy was heading in a particular direction to arrive at their destination. It would be slim chances that both vehicles got turned around for one reason or another prior to the accident and were traveling in the opposite direction of their original destinations. Maybe the whole thing was caught on survellience tape from the nearby businesses? I am sure the police will have this all figured out soon enough and we will know what happened. I am done my rant.
” I am sure the police will have this all figured out soon enough and we will know what happened. ”
That’s doubtful. There STILL hasn’t been any report about the driver of the hit-and-run in Bangor. The victim was buried, and the news just stopped.
I saw on the news where they identified the female driver and took her car away on a flatbed. I don’t know how the law enforcement / legal stuff works but my guess is the police have to submit their information to the DA or someone. Then it would be up to that person or agency to press charges? I don’t know, but it seemed like the police did a good job locating the driver and vehicle within a day or so.
the news hasnt said much of anything or the conditions of the others involved which i find as strange.
Just like anything there are two sides to every story. We all have to remember that this was an accident, a very TRAGIC ACCIDENT. Let the police do the investigation and talk with everyone involved, and they did do a reconstruction in which they use black marks and many other factors that they are trained in. Bangor has an excellent traffic reconstruction division/team. Everyone last night was ready to put the SUV driver in jail, now everyone is saying the police are wrong. Maybe when the police interview the minivan driver he will shed light on the situation and we will all know what really happened!!!
It wasn’t an accident, it was a crash. Accidents are unforeseeable.
That made absolutely no sense to me. If there was a mechanical or medical problem that caused the crash would not that be an accident? Do you know what caused the crash?
I defend the BDN and it’s reporters often. But why does the old, incorrect article not get removed or at least flagged as being incorrect the minute it’s realized that there’s a huge error in it? Or if it isn’t definitive which is correct, at least try to reconcile the two stories, as they are describing two completely different scenarios.

Everyone thinks the Envoy was speeding based on it going air born? I’ve seen a vehicle go air born at 35 mph. You need to keep in mind that the Envoy is higher off the ground than the other vehicles involved so it would probably be more likely to be the one to become air born.
No, they think the Envoy was speeding because that is what every witness who saw the accident reported.
It could be that it was speeding. I’m just not one to point the finger in one direction or the other when all facts are not present. I’ll wait for the investigators to do their part and then the BDN may or may not update us all. The important thing is, it was a horrible accident and a life was lost. I feel bad for all who were involved and the families.
The corrected the article saying the minivan was “heading” and not “speeding.”
Driving out of Bangor at that time on a sunny day on Hammond , Union and Broadway is often blinding due to the position of the sun. Only thing worse is driving in the opposite direction at 8 AM.
I’m just saying from looking at the photo that was supplied, the minivan is indeed directed towards outer broadway not towards bangor. When you are moving at a high rate of speed and hit something or brake quickly the front-end will dip; from the looks of it, this happened. When the larger gmc came in contact with the front of the minivan it acted like a ramp for the gmc giving a vehicle with a history of rollovers the extra needed lift and direction to send it into the air, as has been said, into a sorta corkscrew and then coming to rest on its roof and side.
These are merely my observations from the photo provided, in connection with my background in physics and engineering. None of the above is factual mere speculation. Formulate your own opinion just from observing the photo and see if the possible outcomes lineup with either account that has been publicized.
A witness posted on here that the van was coming from outer broadway heading towards Bangor and the Envoy was leaving Bangor heading out of town and that when the SUV hit the van it spun it around so it was facing the opposite direction.
If this happened the SUV in most circumstances would have ended up on the opposite side of the intersection no? Otherwise the minivan would have had to be traveling at a greater force to throw the suv into and backflip type of corkscrew to then land facing towards bangor. Do you agree with this?
Look again at the photos…the most damage to the minivan is on the passenger’s side, not the driver’s side. That means the SUV must have come up fast behind the Camry which was stopped to turn into Kev Lan, veered to the left to try to avoid hitting it and slammed into the oncoming minivan, hitting it mostly on the passenger side, causing it to spin around facing the other direction and making the SUV go airborn and flip multiple times before landing where it did.
I’m sorry but I fail to see an evidence of the passenger side of the minivan being shown at all, in the video nor the photos. I think you may need to take a step back for a minute and look again at the photos and video that have been presented to the public via this article.
Once again I am in no way trying to say who was or is at fault. Merely sheding a little observation light on a situation that is fueled by emotions and disgust that “your” (directed towards the general population, no one in particular) isn’t the say all be all version. Please try to be objective and unbiased in any response you or anyone has to my posts. I’m trying to spark a more evident reasoning towards what possibly happened by observations and personal knowledge.
The picture doesnt show it but the minivan did have damage on the drivers side, so much so we couldnt even open the doors, the front of it took the worst of it. I can say I dont recall the damage on the passengers side.
You just said the picture doesnt show the driver’s side, but it had a large amount of damage….. Would this not partially confirm, the speculated scenario I said in my earlier post?
The drivers side is pictured jsut so you know….. pictures are taking from the side of the intersection nearer to in town, depicting the minivans left side(driver side) with the vehicle facing towards outer broadway. Would you say this is true?
What I meant was that it doesnt show it justice. The SUV hit the minivan virtually head on and then hit it again when it was spun around, the mini van was coming into Bangor through the light when it hit and spun around (how many times I dont recall) until it came to land in the opposite lane facing towards outer broadway, the SUV was almost backend upright at one point before rolling over multiple times and came to rest on its side/roof facing Bangor.
She was a witness and has already said multiple times that the minivan was heading INTO town and the SUV was speeding down the hill and clipped the Camry which was preparing to turn left into Kev Lan. The SUV hit the minivan and spun it around so it was facing the opposite direction.
Yeah, it’s even an attributed quote in the previous article with “Sean O’Brien” of Dover Foxcroft saying
*** after the Envoy “nicked that car [the Toyota], it put it sideways and
he hit him head-on,” referring to the driver of the minivan.***
Now they changed it to an unnamed eye witness
***One eyewitness said Morrison’s vehicle “clipped that car there [the Toyota] and went out of control.”***
They completely changed which vehicle was speeding and hit the car after they flat out said it was the envoy… There was no ambiguity last night, but the second names came out, the story completely changed.
I have in no way said her story is or was wrong…… I’m merely asking questions and pointing out details I’m seeing that are potentially large indicators as to what happened. No conclusions have been made either way. I feel you are too close to this story, You posted just a few minutes ago that you know this “eye witness” and believe everything she says because she is honest and attentive. This in my eyes is a major red flag, ma’am/miss as you are being very biased at this time, and I specifically asked to be unbiased in any replies to my post. Keeps things levelheaded and civil
Dude, look at the tire tracks/skids in the video.. It follows the Envoy the whole way (up to the Giffords to where the vehicle “landed” even through the curb), and you can see where the minivan got spun around by the second smaller set.
I’m not sure which video you have possession of, but my observations of the one on this site, are inconclusive when it comes to skidmarks. The quality of the video, with the sunlight at the time of filming and the abundance of absorbents they have on the road for the large amount of fluids, it’s too difficult to make out any apparent skidmarks without being there and standing on top of them.
Watch the video from 40 seconds in and on (Fullscreen helps)… The skids start up near Giffords (where the contact was made with the toyota), and end where the envoy landed in the grass by Kev-Lan. It follows the vehicle the WHOLE way right across the centerline and through where the head on with the minivan happened.
Shadows from the people standing around the scene? Ok…. you had me. Please explain why the skidmarks would start at the very edge of the Irving lot? Also do you travel that road in an abundance? Everyday or at least every other day?
They don’t, they start up the hill a bit before the Giffords. It’s right down the road from where I live (off Pushaw), so I checked it out when I went back into town. Go check for yourself, it’s the same set that goes all the way from the little dirt parking spot where there’s usually someone selling flowers/wreaths all the way to where the Envoy “landed”. There’s not even a question when you see it in person.
It looks like the front of the car was pushed in and that will jam a door so it won’t open. In the wabi photo you can see the damage on the passenger side, too…even in the back. It looks like the Envoy went right up over the top of the passenger side of the van, which would explain how it landed where it did since the minivan was coming TOWARDS town and the SUV was coming FROM town. I believe your account 100%. I know who you are and I KNOW that you are honest and attentive and would never say that you know for sure what happened if you didn’t see it with your own eyes. You are also not one to just go along with what other people say happened or easily influenced in the manner some are suggesting.
Go look at the photos from wabi’s website.
http://www.wabi.tv/themed/wabi/img/Image/8295/image.jpg
That would be a great picture were more of the actual front passenger side shown…… So far in the picture I see that the front end has been completely totaled with usual damage to the passenger side front panels, headlight, hood and bumber. The picture we have in front of us here on this website of the drivers side clearly shows it has sustained large amounts of damage. The wheel and tire has been snapped from the axle…. still going to tell me that more damage ( from pictures only) was sustatined to the passenger side of the vehicle in question.
check the rear of the minivan. it looks like the passenger side is pushed in & the rear door/hatch has been sprung. rear window is missing as well? just my observation.
accordion effect?? it’s common, chassis’ and vehicles are made to crumble like a can now, I’m not sure why they think this helps. It just crunches up like nothing turning your safe car into a death trap.
I’m very intrigued with the tidbit I noticed the last time I viewed the video…. If the SUV was traveling outbound like, “witnesses” are claiming, and the driver tried to correct back into her lane before contact with the minivan….. inertia along with that last minute jerk to the right, would their be enough force from a minivan that has been said was stopped and also heading downtown…. to over power the inertial force of a speeding SUV?
”
accordion effect?? it’s common, chassis’ and vehicles are made to crumble like a can now, I’m not sure why they think this helps.”
I believe that car manufacturers refer to this as the “crumple zone” (http://auto.howstuffworks.com/car-driving-safety/safety-regulatory-devices/crumple-zone.htm)
This crumple zone aids in deceleration as well as absorbing the force of the impact. Think of it like this… If you were going to bungee jump you’d want to use an rope that allows a deceleration over several seconds allowing the rope to absorb the force of your fall vs. a cable which has no elastic properties and will transfer a great deal of force over a very short amount of time.
Yes but the crumple zone also causes numerous injuries and the extent of damage to a vehicle is over exaggerated in most cases as the force of the blow is transferred thru the entire mass instead of just one quick jolt.
Crumple zones do not cause numerous injuries, they prevent injuries. Do a little research. Without crumple zones the impact is transferred thru the entire mass. You have it backwards.
the vehicle clipped toyota before hitting the envoy, sending it out of control… the odds the mini van or suv ended up facing the same direction it was traveling is pretty slim
So recreating a crash or any incident then is all based on odds now instead of the actual and more likely possibly outcome based on speed, direction, angle of impact and trajectory of intended flight of an airborne vehicle.
It’s hard to see in a logical objective and calculated opinion that a minivan moving at a low rate of speed or possibly stopped, had enough force to exert enough of a correction to a larger mass vehicle moving with a greater velocity.
Again these are all possibilities and speculation towards a possible outcome, in no way and am I denouncing the testimony of said witnesses.
Just noticed something…this article has the SUV and the minivan confused. In the last article the witness said that it was the SUV that clipped the Toyota Camry and in this article it is implied that it was the minivan by the use of the name of the driver of the van.
No, they’re flat out blaming the driver of the minivan now, basically a 180 from what apparently all the witnesses saw last night. The article is reflecting what the BPD have up on their facebook page, so it’s not the reporter who’s “confused”.
I think the owners of the businesses need to review their surveillance video. Every single witness last night reported that it was the SUV that was speeding down the hill, clipped the Camry and hit the mini van.
When you see a SUV hit a car (thats when I looked) and then observe the SUV go sliding down the road sideways and hit a minivan in the other lane you dont mistake that.
Attempting to unravel a tangle of metal, for a reason it became as such, confuses even the most learned.
I think you all who are thinking the van did it (in the library with the candlestick) might be in for a surprise when the dust settles. It takes time to reconstruct these types of scenes, and I really wish that the police and others would not put anything in the news until the complete scene has been completed and/or charges filed if needed. It will be interesting to see what the end verdict is. As they say, it is not always as it seems ( is that right?).
Every single witness has said the SUV was coming down the hill heading out of town and that the mini van was heading INTO town…both travelling in the OPPOSITE direction of how their vehicles were facing once they landed. It was the SUV that hit the Camry. It was the SUV that hit the mini van. The Camry was in the turning lane waiting to turn into Kev Lan to the left. Obviously the SUV was going down that hill too fast and hit the Camry, lost control and went into the oncoming lane and hit the mini van. Which vehicle CAUSED the accident? The SUV because they hit the Camry from behind. Now, for all we know the accelerator may have stuck, and maybe the mini van was even going too fast as well…but unless they had a red light and ran it then the people in that van are completely innocent and I find it absolutely disgusting to blame this elderly man…especially in light of the fact that he’s probably fighting for his life and his wife is dead.
That’s not what the story says – do you have reason to believe that the BDN has it wrong?
Very sad and tragic. A life was lost, and the others injured (which includes a YOUNG girl!!) Thoughts and prayers to all the families, and hoping for a quick recovery for ALL the people who were involved.
As CynicalMatador pointed out in one of their posts…the video clearly shows the path of the Envoy (starting at 40 seconds into the video) from where it hit the Camry all the way over to where it landed. The Envoy is the vehicle that lost control and hit the mini van.
Let’s focus on the woman who lost her life and her dear husband who must be in agony…Diane was a beautiful Christian person and her life touched many. She loved children and teaching them about Jesus. She was sincere and kind and had a great sense of humor. She really WALKED her Christian faith and did not just claim to have it! Her husband is a fine man as well and I am praying he will be ok and that God will comfort him and their family at this time. THAT is more important than any of these petty speculations and arguments. -L. Plunkett
did diane used to live on essex and had family in dover? the name is so familiar ,i think i might have done some work for her.
AMEN!!!!
Thank-you for posting that MercyofGod. And may her family and friends find peace as well, knowing that she now rests with her redeemer, and may their faith carry them through this difficult time. I’m so sorry for you all.
What is going on out there? Every day now someone crosses the center line and somebody dies.
btw they aint no cameras at lights in maine ,its illegal ,those are fakes
They aint no??? WHAT??? Wow.
Severly, one shouldn’t throw stones when one has their own issues with the English language. Of course I am assuming you meant to call yourself severelyamused. Maybe severly is a real word. I’ve been wrong before. Apologies in advance if I am wrong in this instance.
Yes you are right there…A missing E by mistake is the same as “they aint no cameras” You win.
TKA!
They’re not “fakes,” they are merely sensors for detecting the presence of vehicles to change the traffic lights.
My
they really should update the conditions of the people in this crash
They can only release medical information if the patient or a legally designated power of attorney allows them to provide it. There are laws relating to medical privacy.
It must be nice to sit around and speculate and assume things all day as some of you have done…forgetting that a mans wife is dead and good people are injured….GET A LIFE FOLKS, STAY FOCUSED, OFFER SYMPATHIES AND MOVE ON!!!! Common sense isnt very common I guess.
The people in the mini van is my family. They were headed into town. I will make sure that this is not blamed on my uncle. RIP aunt Diane……
well you def. need to talk to someone because they are now changing the whole story and saying it was all your family’s fault ,despite multiple witnesses other wise and the cops own version last night ,someone is lying!
I am so sorry for your loss. may Diane rest in peace.
God Bless you and your family in this time. The only reason why I have been so insistent on my position of this article is because I do not want your uncle blamed for this when I know for a fact he did not cause this. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.
Can I ask a question based on my observation of the photos? Why does the article read that the roof was torn from the SUV? From the pictures, it seems to me that all the roofs on all the vehicles are intact. Second, and most important, why is there a blue tarp over the mini van if the female passenger in the SUV is the one who died? Don’t they use those tarps over the vehicle when someone dies at the scene?
the roof was cut off the envoy, i was there and saw it.
The woman who died was the passenger in the mini van, not the SUV.
So how does the mini van get blasted on both ends ? i saw it, after the fact, the entire right rear and front is destroyed in addition to the passenger side. And yet its their fault !!! Riiight !!!!
A witness posting here said the SUV hit the Camry then slid into the path of the mini van which spun the van around, the SUV hit them again and went into the air, flipped a bunch of times and then landed as pictured.
So believe the professionals or the commenters on the BDN website? I know who I pick.
After reading all this (I have contacted the BPD) you all need to know that just seconds before the crash the SUV met me head on by WZON –I was coming into Bangor–he was headed OUT but was in my lane passing two vehicles. No where for me to go. I thought it was over for me but he (SUV) swerved between me and the two cars back into his (SUV) own lane OUTBOUND –I thank God he made it (he was going at an incredible speed–sounded like had pedal all the way down–he never slowed down) in my rear view mirror I saw him going out of control–would have said he was by DD’s then swerving back and forth–my thought was oh God the intersection, and then I saw nothing but a huge cloud of dust. So sorry a life was lost. The SUV was the vehicle that almost hit me head on so him being airborne and turned around makes very much sense. No need to speculate except I didn’t see who he hit or what happened between the 5 or so seconds after. I treasure every second even more than I have been because I am still here!
So are you calling the envoy an Suv or the hundai both appear ed to be four wheel drive I think I would call the hundai an mpv multi purpose vehicle it was an endurance model name plate on it
Aside from calling the police you should contact the BDN and tell them what you saw so they fix this false article.
Double posted by accident
Hi verifyfirst….just wondering something…I noticed you said that “he” passed you on Broadway. Did you see a man at the wheel or was this just a figure of speech? I have heard a number of people state that the SUV caused the accident but have just recently heard that one of the women in the Camry is saying that the van is the vehicle that hit them. I ended up googling the make and model of the SUV and the minivan and they look very similar. What color was the vehicle that passed you? I wonder why the woman in the Camry is not being quoted in the newspaper too? It’s all so confusing and so very sad. My thoughts and prayers go out to all involved. RIP Diane Morrison.
I can see it being a mechanical problem with the Envoy. We have one, where I work, as a company vehicle and the thing has had numerous mechanical problems. Maybe the gas peddle got stuck by the floor mat too. I’ve had that happen to me with my truck. If the driver pushed the gas to the floor and the edge of the peddle hung up on the floor mat the driver might have panicked and didn’t know what was going on or what to do.
I was not mistaken in what I saw. It was the envoy not the mini van
Unfortunately, statistics and research tell us that there is a wide gap between what you believe you saw and what actually transpired.
Fortunately it was caught on video by the Tom T/gas station cameras on the corner. I’m a bit surprised they havent released the results of that, as from my understanding, it verifies the eye witness statements that the envoy was to blame.
Perhaps we all need to stop and think about how quickly the first article was written and question the accuracy of the reporting. I do not believe that the reporter had so many of the “facts” that they were able to write such an in depth article when the police had not even completed their reconstruction of the accident. So much pain caused in the accident…how much more pain created by possibly inaccurate reporting?
Well I doubt he was doing 80 when everyone else was doing 110. No one goes that slow through there even if they want to.
There you would be wrong.
I know I am in the minority, but I do the speed limit through there.
I’m kidding, I lived in that neighborhood for 50 years. People drive fast and too many want to be out in front.
Rather than to use the drive home as a time to unwind after working, people seem to use the the time to be angry, rude and dangerous.
I declare there was an accident a week at the intersection while I was living there. I can’t think of a time there wasn’t broken glass and car parts on the road.
I don’t know. I was basing on the picture of the Hyundai mini-van facing toward outer Broadway. But someone posted above said the Envoy met her head-on at WZON radio in her lane and quickly swerved back into the northbound lane (outbound) on Broadway. Another person says their Aunt and Uncle in the minivan were headed into town. The article says a woman was driving the Envoy with the husband in the passenger seat and the daughter in the back. I wouldn’t think this woman driver in the Envoy would commit road rage, especially with a youngster in the back. The results of the accident reconstruction will be interesting, especially as to what lane the Camry was in when it was struck because another posting said when she gave one of the women in the car some water, she said she was hungry. Dinner at Kev-Lan? Ice Cream at Gifford’s? Another factor is, as people have posted, the Envoy accelerator got stuck.
I looked it up about the accelerator issue…and there were a lot of reports of it sticking, with the 2002 model quite specifically. I don’t think the woman driving the Envoy would be driving like that on purpose unless her intent was to kill her whole family. That seems highly unlikely since she seemed to be trying to avoid hitting cars. I think they will find that the accelerator stuck. I just wish certain people would stop calling witnesses liars. Every single one of them last night and on here have said the same thing and they are the ones that saw it.
I see a lot of gumshoe detectives here…
Notice the witness says “he” and the driver of the Envoy was a woman. The driver of the speeding vehicle hit the third vehicle first. Forensics will show which vehicle was the speeding vehicle that hit the first vehicle. Why don’t you just give the people involved and their families a break and wait for all the evidence?
Bottom line Wench…you weren’t there and I wasn’t either. Don’t know if the poster you way was there really was or not.
Moral of the story: if your accelerator pedal sticks down full: TURN OFF THE IGNITION!
the guy said he was by wzon when passed by suv, i have traveled that section of road a thousands times and there is no way i could see down over a hill in a rear view mirror just saying.
The posts were not all anonymous to me. I actually know one of the witnesses who is absolutely POSITIVE that it was the Envoy that was leaving town and that it was the minivan that was coming into town. I trust that person and know them well enough to be 100% certain that they would NEVER say it was definitely the Envoy that hit the Camry if they were not 100% positive that is how it happened. They would NEVER just repeat what others were saying at the scene. They are NOT one who jumps on any bandwagon.
The person the Envoy almost hit head on a few seconds before this accident apparently had not called the police until after reading that the wrong vehicle was being blamed for causing the accident. The witnesses from last night’s article were not all anonymous, either. One gave his name and recounted the same story the person I know did. However, in this article the reporter did not give his name and twisted his quote to support what today’s article is suggesting when that is NOT what he actually said.
So to what purposes does:
a) the BPD change the story, and
b) the BDN reporter twist the “quote to support what today’s article is suggesting”?
Short answer…every time someone clicks on an article the BDN makes $$$$ The more controversial the article the more people that visit to read, post and respond and the BDN keeps making $$$$
I have been considering for some time buying a go pro hd camera and mounting it on my dash great also for snow sleds and atvs this only made my decision easier a small sd card good to go the camera doesn’t lie
Thank you for posting this. It confirms what I have been saying all along. I am so glad that you are safe, it must have shook you up. You had some angels with you yesterday. God Bless.
Good journalism demands that you name your sources. Who were these witnesses?
“Good journalism demands that you name your sources.”
No, it doesn’t. You know that.

I do think the editor should have suggested the typical “… who wished to not be named …” text.
I just read the first page of comments and to tell you the truth, I find it somewhat upsetting. Two of the individuals who posted here identified themselves to be a good friend of the lady who passed away, another identified themselves as family. And you are all so busy arguing over nothing that has to do with you that you almost completely ignored that, and your replies to them are bullying, rather than sympathetic. Shame.
To those people reading these posts that knew these people, I am so very sorry for the suffering that you and your families must be going through. It is a shame that this occurred. My thoughts will be with you as you deal with this tragedy, and I pray the injured heal quickly and well.
Mr Morrison is key if they can just ask him a simple question which way were you going ? i hope they can ,he wont lie, im sure.
the details will come out. Let’s remember a family is grieving. I knew Diane and she was a wonderful person. It must be very difficult for her husband.
I think some people watch too much CSI.
Too combative here for the nature of the article.
I like how in the pasted comment that OldWench posted, it refers to the driver of the Envoy being a “he” when I’m quite sure the only male in the accident and that was driving was of the minivan….. correct me if i’m wrong folks. That statement just seems a little fishy to me is all

“Fortunately it was caught on video by the Tom T/gas station cameras on the corner. I’m a bit surprised they havent released the results of that, as from my understanding, it verifies the eye witness statements that the envoy was to blame.”
WOW!
If you think about it logically, there should have never been much doubt that the SUV was headed north (out) Broadway and not south has the “corrected” police statement indicates. There is no way the “northbound” minivan could have hit the “southbound” SUV with enough force to essentially knock it backwards into the corner lot of the Kev-Lan which is where the SUV ended, upside down. However, the inertial force of a speeding SUV heading north certainly could carry it up over the southbound minivan continuing north into the location on the corner, (a sort of corkscrew through the air) all while causing the minivan to spin into its final resting place. If it does turn out to show that the SUV was the cause, then I think we have a serious question of either competency or ethics with certain individuals on the reconstruction team. This once seem almost too simple to miss. Remember inertia and vectors in physics class? I do.
major egg on the face coming !!!!
So beef how did you find out about the video ? Do you work in the area
I think bangor pd has gone into major damage control mode they are now saying nothin after changn it from what they said to begin with from minute one they should have said nothin until all video had been reviewed and interviews been completed
