NAPLES, Maine — A Bridgton man was taken to the hospital early Saturday after leading police on a brief pursuit before crashing, according to police.

Deputies attempted to stop John Allen, 31, of Bridgton for erratic driving just before 1 a.m. Saturday, Cumberland County Sheriff Kevin Joyce said in a statement.

Allen, who was driving a 2006 Dodge Magnum, started to pull over but then accelerated to speeds approaching 80 miles per hour, according to Joyce.

After going approximately about three-quarters of a mile, Allen lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a telephone pole.

Allen was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston for non-life threatening injuries, according to Joyce. A passenger, Jeremy McLeod, 31, was taken to Bridgton Memorial Hospital for a foot injury and later released.

The accident remains under investigation and Allen will likely face charges in the crash, Joyce said.

  1. Is it just me that finds the term “approximately about” a little odd.  Shouldn’t it be one or the other?  I would certainly hope that this clown will have charges filed against him.  At the very least he should get reckless driving and attempting to elude charges.

    1. The turms approximately and about mean the same thing. Isn’t that redundant? I too would hope they charge him with reckless driving and eluding an officer. Driving to endanger is also good. Send him to jail and forget about him for awhile.

  2. approximately gives it a vague distance, adding about to the phrase just makes it accurate enough for the BDN to put it in a column.  Can’t be too specific on the details, the readers might walk away actually being informed…..
