LEWISTON, Maine — Police and drug agents were searching Paris Adult Book Store on Thursday after receiving tips that so-called “bath salts” and other synthetic drugs were being sold at the Lisbon Street store.
Half a dozen agents, police officers and a detective went into the store at about 3 p.m. with a search warrant. An hour later, they were still searching through the store, which is known for its adult movies and toys, tobacco and pipes.
It was not immediately clear what drug agents found at the store. More information was expected later in the day.
Maine Drug Enforcement Agency Supervisor Matthew Cashman said police have received numerous tips that people have been coming from all over the state to purchase illegal bath salts at the store.
While they searched Thursday afternoon, a half dozen customers walked up to the doors of the store, saw police inside, and got back into their cars.
Illegal synthetic drugs are often marketed as bath salts and given colorful names such as “Barely Legal,” “Meow, Meow” and “Zoom.”
Over the past year, there have been numerous news reports of people doing bizarre things while under the influence of the drug, including murder and cannibalism.
Lawmakers have been creating new laws pertaining to the ban of certain synthetic drugs, but police say the sellers of the drugs have managed to alter the ingredients just enough to get around the law.
Paris Adult Book Store is across from the police station and is owned by Dan and Diane Beauchesne.

Never ceases to amaze me how many times suspected drug dealers live right next to the Police Station lol, that is ballsy.

The cops are never there. They are out on patrol.

Actually, the cannibalism thing in Florida was disproved. The perpetrator had only trace amounts of marijuana in his system, so they still don’t know why he did it. The bath salts connection was only speculation that somehow transformed to urban myth, right before our eyes.
That said, bath salts are still the worst drug to hit the streets in a long time. It causes permanent psychosis in a very short time. I’m glad the police are being active in shutting this down.
