BANGOR, Maine — Residents of Ohio Street in the vicinity of St. Mary’s Catholic Church woke up Friday without running water due to a broken water main.

Bangor Water District General Manager Kathy Moriarty said the call was reported around 7 a.m., and a cause is unclear.

“It really is hard to say,” she said. “It probably is the result of aging water pipes.”

Crews were busy trying to fix the problem Friday morning, reducing traffic to one lane.

Moriarty said things should be back to normal by early Friday afternoon, barring any major complications.

This marks the second water break in the area in 24 hours, as officials responded to an incident on Union Street near downtown on Thursday.
