NORTHPORT, Maine — A man who told a 911 dispatcher during a tense domestic violence situation Sunday night that he wanted to go to jail for a long time was taken into custody after police Tasered him.

David Morin, 30, of Saturday Cove Road in Northport apparently had been fighting with his girlfriend when her mother initially called to report a domestic situation, according to Lt. Jason Trundy of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.

Shortly after the mother made that call, Morin himself dialed 911, telling the dispatcher that he had lost his job and was mad at his girlfriend.

“He was screaming at the dispatcher, swearing at him, saying, ‘Come arrest me,’” Trundy said. “He said he had a gun and made threats about having a gun. He was threatening to assault law enforcement.”

All in all, Morin called the emergency dispatcher three times, asking when police would get to the residence.

When Deputy Arthur Smith arrived at the home, he saw Morin walking out of the house. Smith commanded Morin to get on the ground, but he refused. Smith eventually had to chase Morin down, and used a Taser to restrain him.

At that point, Morin complied with the officer and went into police custody, Trundy said.

He was charged with refusing to submit to arrest or detention, with terrorizing, with violation of conditions of release and with domestic violence criminal mischief.

He remained Monday afternoon at Waldo County Jail in Belfast, where his bail was set at $1,500 cash, according to a jail official.

  1. “At that point, Morin complied with the officer and went into police custody, Trundy said.”

Amazing what you will do after you have been Tasered! And he got his “I wan’t to go to jail” request!

  2. I hope the girl is okay! Anyone here care, or are you all too busy making fun?! Sounds like he is pretty sick and desperate to want to go to jail, and I hope he gets help. Maybe he wanted them to shoot him because it sounds like he didn’t have a lot going for him. I hope his (EX, I hope) girlfriend is okay and there is no excuse for what he did, and you’ll probably justify your comments with the fact that he’s a loser for hurting a woman. But why would someone WANT to go away. Someone who is screaming for help. Try stretching your simple thoughts a little bit. And to the girl he messed with, the best thing you can do is move on!
