HOLDEN, Maine — A Monroe man is facing at least two charges after the car he was driving Thursday morning collided with another that was stopped, waiting to turn left into G&M Variety Market, Holden Police Chief Gene Worcester said.

Robert Seekins, 52, had false plates on the 2005 Chevy Impala he was driving and had no proof of insurance, the chief said, adding Seekins also could not find his registration and is scheduled to return to Holden on Friday to produce it.

“For some reason, he attempted to pass the [car waiting to turn] on the left” when the right travel-through lane was empty, Worcester said.

Seekins’ front passenger side and the front end of a 2001 Pontiac driven by Jayson LaPoint of Bucksport had visible damage after the 9 a.m. collision.

Seekins was heading east toward Ellsworth when he struck LaPoint’s Pontiac, which was in the center turn lane.

“I thought it was odd he was passing me on the left,” LaPoint said, holding a cold pack to his neck as he stood on the side of the road shortly after the collision.

LaPoint said he decided to stop at the store en route to his job at Maine Military Supply.

The crash detoured traffic heading into Brewer through the store’s parking lot for a short while and backed up traffic heading east. Seekins’ 17-year-old daughter complained of a minor foot injury, Worcester said.

Shortly after the collision, a woman, identified as the teenager’s mother, and a young girl arrived in a truck and, with the help of Seekins, moved the injured teenager from the damaged car to the truck and then took her for medical treatment, Worcester said.

Seekins declined medical treatment and the ambulance left the scene as the girl’s mother was arriving.

  1. Are you freaking kidding me? The guy is sitting in the left turn lane and this clown tries to pass him on the left.  Illegal plates  no insurance(?) and driving like a maniac.  This is whats happening on the roads out there.  Luckily for him no one was seriously injured or worse.  He needs his license pulled, but I doubt it would stop him from driving.

  2. No insurance? False plates? Driving to endanger? Why  are the Cops letting him go home to get papers he doesn’t have. If he had a valid registration he would have valid plates on the car. Does this guy have a valid inspection sticker? He should be going to jail and the car impounded.

  3. Any bets on him not returning to Holden Friday to produce a registration that obviously doesnt exist…false plates and no insurance..which u need to register…shoulda took him straight to jail.

    1.  More like impound vehicle with hefty penalty.  Any one want to bet he does it again?

  4. Law enforcement doesn’t have time for traffic patrol any more so we’re gonna see a lot more dumb sheet happening like this on the roads..  :-/

    1. Holden doesn’t have a very large department but even if an officer was present it doesn’t stop someone from doing something dumb. They also do patrol their section of Route 1 often as well as run speed enforcement.

  5. How about a third ticket for this guy for improper lane usage or crossing a yellow line?  What was he thinking?

  6. Wow! I hope for Jayson’s sake that this guy can prove reg and insurance! Cause you know that he isnt gonna pay out of pocket to fix Jayson’s car!

  7. Accidents like that are scary. I’m glad they are ok but i bet they messed their sweatpants.
