BANGOR, Maine — Employees at Manna Ministries on Main Street arrived at work Monday morning to discover their sign had been vandalized, and police are investigating.
Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said a Manna employee contacted police about 10 a.m. to report a swastika and an image of a hand had been spray-painted on the sign.
Manna director Bill Rae wasn’t too happy with the swastika, a Nazi symbol.
“We’re a faith-based group and here we have somebody who decided they’re going to defame our sign with a swastika,” he said. “Anything else I could tolerate, but not a swastika.”
Rae said Manna has “never ever had anything like this” occur in the 21 years it has been in operation.
“Hopefully it’s not in conjunction with what happened in the Midwest,” said Rae, referring to the massacre Sunday at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin.
Rae said he “doesn’t have enough money to pay for a new sign,” and insurance won’t cover what happened to it.
No arrests have been made, Edwards said.

There’s grafitti all over downtown. Worse than it’s ever been. When I lived in a downtown apartment I used to see the guy from Code Enforcement jogging the downtown on Saturday mornings around once a month or so with his dog making lists of the marked properties. Usually within a week it was cleaned up. We met because our dogs would play… How come he doesn’t do it anymore? He needs to!

Its not the issue of painting overe the sign, its the issue of ruining something that someone else owns. If it not your keep you paws to yourself.

If they catch the loser who did this, they shouldn’t give him jail time. Instead, the loser should have to pay for supplies out of their own pocket, and personally paint the sign up to fix it, as well as do any other repairs that are needed at Manna Ministries. Maybe then they would learn to respect other people’s property.

Except now the damage is done. It will cost money to replace. Money better spent on Manna’s mission. These are more than “childish pranksters.” They destroy property.

Omg you have got to be kidding me ..when I first read this headline I said oh boy bill will need 10 grand for a new sign and sure enough the bottom of the article says he don’t have enough money for a new sign….number one a little paint would work and number two, your sign looks like a plastic banner over wood? The swastika isn’t “dead set against Christianity” as Rae states. I’m sorry for pointing that out but it seems that many people are misinformed.
Probably the same people who painted the mailboxes on the Old County Rd in Hampden. The road also has a swastika painted on it, closer to the Hampden side
There’s a few options. Cover it with duct tape, paint over it with white paint, or get some strong paint remover and clean it off. You don’t have to go replacing it if the sign isn’t delicate.
